Cistern Water Testing
Would you recommend the process of getting cistern water tested? Is there a testing kit? Where do you get the kit? Where do you send/take the kit? How does it all work? What are the steps? Thanks!
If you live in a condo complex (which I believe you do) your water supply is designated as a Public Use facility and is mandated by law to undergo monthly potability testing by a qualified and licensed water lab. I believe Ocean Systems is currently the lab used on St Thomas.
A private homeowner can obtain water testing kits from I believe Ocean Systems and a couple of other water treatment equipment suppliers which you can find in the Yellow Pages in the VI Phone Book (www.viphonebook.com)
Hope that helps!
It is good to get a test done as a starting point but then it is simply keeping the concentration of chlorine at about .04-.06 PPM to deter bacteria. Ocean systems is EPA approved and are very good about explaining the process. Tart is right on about the public water supply info.
I have a single family home on Water Island. We have a whole house UV Water Filtration system recently installed and I wanted to get the water tested now that we have the system completely up and running. I'll contact Ocean systems. Thanks!
