cigars
where is a good place to purchase a decent cigar on stt? are there cubans avallailable? and what are the prices!
We are a US territory, Cuban cigars are illegal here.
i knew that... but seen on another forum that there were some available! should have know not to veer from here!!!! LOL.....
You can go to the BVI and get cuban cigars.
There are many fake Cubans so be careful if you buy.
You can buy Cuban cigars in the BVI but will have to smoke them there as it's illegal to bring them into the US. I've heard many times from true cigar aficionados that some of the cigars from the DR are as fine as those made in Cuba ...
My husband used to love cigars (he's quit now thankfully) and smoked Cubans every chance he had when out of the US. He was introduced to Dominican cigars by a lady in St. Maarten. He said they were the best cigar he ever had. She told him that years ago Cuban soil & seeds were brought to the DR to grow the tobacco there. FWIW.
You should be able to find a good selection at Tobacco Discounters which is located in the Port of Sale mall adjacent to the Havensight Mall at the WICO cruise ship dock. Their number is 340-774-2256.
If you go to the BVI and buy real Cuban cigars remove the bands and place the bands somewhere away from the cigars. I have seen this done before.Customs is not so worried about a few cigars, but a box might be different.
It is illegal for ANY US Citizen to buy, possess, consume or otherwise trade Cuban Cigars. I have read that this trade restriction is INCLUSIVE of you purchasing cigars and smoking them even in a foreign country....
Cuban Assets Control Regulations, 31 C.F.R. Part 515, (Revised September 30, 2004) are administered and enforced by the Office of Foreign Assets Control. Criminal penalties for violation of the Regulations can go as high as $1 million for corporations, and $250,000 for individuals plus up to 10 years in prison. In addition, civil penalties of up to $65,000 per violation can be imposed by OFAC.
Personally, I prefer cigars from other places (smoked cigars from Italy, DR, Philipines, Cost Rica and some were excellent)- Recently, the ICE has cited a very large increase in Illegal Cuban Cigars- and will probably start changing their guidelines- The greatest thrill is to find a pre-embargo Cuban Cigar- these ARE legal- however they go for about $500 to $20,000..in the purest class- there are other pre-embargo cigars, which though expensive- are somewhat more affordable.........
