Chucky loses again

She's quoted as saying that she's "disappointed but not surprised" at the decision(s) but this isn't the first time (and won't be the last) that she's wasted the court's time and taxpayer's money filing ill-thought-out suits. All a ploy to persuade her constituents that she's looking out for their best interests and ensure her re-election. I'm sure a large number of them never see the end result but only remember that she fought the fight. Too bad all the money spent doesn't come out of her own pocket. Bah humbug.
i think you made a typographical error old tart.:D title should read "chucky is a loser again"
Chuckytricity leaves us in the dark-
You by now of course know that "Lord Killawatt" is going after a large type rate increase before the PSC- all this in the face of the Brent Crude Oil Price- which has dropped $30 a barrel to the high eighties- while WAPA is still charging a LEAC based on $118. Something needs to be done...
I'll be talking largely about this tomorrow when I call in to 93.5 and hope that we get SOMEONE's attention to help stop this travesty.
"WAPA had filed a petition with the PSC to increase revenues from water rates by $2 million, and from electric rates by $15 million."
Guess who's pockets these increases shall come from when we are already paying more for electricity than anyone else?
Don't we all, already, dread the arrival of our WAPA bills?
We can thank all those Senators who had our best interests at heart (not) when they shot down Southern Energy's bid to buy WAPA years ago! Why are these people still in office?
Heaven help us because no-one else will!

Heh, not touching this question with a 10' pole but I think we all know why.
The Southern Energy bid in 1998/1999 to purchase WAPA was legitimate and even in hindsight remains a hugely missed opportunity. Unlike so many of the new corporations today offering very sweet deals to senators who have, for the most part, little knowledge of what they speak, Southern Energy both was and still is a legitimate operation which is more than can be said for the several energy-saving corporate entities who've come after them and essentially pledged their troth but who have no history of creating or maintaining any sort of operation either in the Caribbean or elsewhere.
I'm not sure why this comes as a big surprise when these sorts of political shenanigans are universal with kick-backs recognized from sports to solar systems and all inbetween. If you want to hold either your local government and/or its representatives accountable, then stand up and do something constructive. Bleating on a public forum accomplishes zilch.

Very true Old Tart. I happen to agree "that bleating on a public forum accomplishes zilch". Voting is a privilege and duty for those who qualify. I find it hillarious when someone blabs on and on about politics; then, can't be bothered to file the paperwork required for voting.

Couldn't agree more!
just a little FYI.....the Southern Energy representative that presented the bid to the legislature back then, is now the executive director of WAPA.

Do you have a link for that? I can't seem to find anything in Hugo Hodge's biography on various sites to confirm it.
Here you go OT.

You are correct. Hodge may have worked for a SC subsidiary, but at that time was not at their corp. offices.
PS. $380M in todays dollars might be $500M. That would help a lot of VI woes.
Thanks. I was just curious. Hodge was previously employed by Griffin in GA but there seems no corporate link between Southern and Griffin nor between Georgia Power (which is a GA subsidiary of Southern) and Griffin.
Dig deeper.
Dig deeper.
I was simply questioning another poster's comment and now you follow up with something cryptic. If you have any information to support the statement then I'd be vaguely interested.
I agree that if you cannot be bothered to get out and vote and participate in the process, then you have no right to complain.
Hodge started as a Co-Op at GP.
I know. I did the research too. Nothing supports poster Cruz's comment, though, which was what I was questioning.
Right on Alana.
Additionaly, find the time to complete naturalization paperwork, so that you can "walk the talk" and vote. Obtaining naturalization isn't easy, but if you really want to be taken seriously it's a pre-requisite for political commentary, especialy on public forums.

One learns something new every day but, just to be on the safe side and so that I completely understand the rules of political commentary, could you point me towards some sources which confirm that a person who comments on political matters is required to be a citizen of the country whose politics they're discussing? I thought I was quite well read but have never seen anything such as this even obliquely referred to. Thanks so much in advance for the help which I'd truly appreciate.
I am a US citizen as well as a 12th generation Virgin Islander so don't quite get what the coment from blu4 was all about!

If my memory serves:
1) OldTart is not a US citizen, by choice
2) OldTart comments on political matters
3) blu4u is critical of OldTart for simultaneously doing #1 and #2

Alana. it wasn't directed toward you. You just got caught in some sniping crossfire.
????
Then why not take the steps needed to become a voting member of the community? All "spining" aside, I simply don't understand.
In my mind, it's kinda like a vegetarian chastising a chef for over-cooking somebody else's steak, then demanding a comp-ed dinner for yourself.
On occasion, OldTart (and other non-voting residents) makes some very valid points, obviously cares a great deal about the future of the territory, enjoys the freedom of expression and benefits from living under democratic rule. Why not walk the talk and become a part of the democratic process?
In Tarts own word's:
If you want to hold either your local government and/or its representatives accountable, then stand up and do something constructive. Bleating on a public forum accomplishes zilch.
As my immigrant (naturalized at age 75) grand mother was fond of saying...."If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen"
So why all the sniping, period blu4u?
It just makes YOU look bad.
Old Tart may not be a naturalized citizen but it is not up to you to decide who should or should not be allowed to comment.
Who made you the comment police?
Give it a rest. I sure don't want to continue to read your seemingly constant sniping aimed at anyone.
Personally, I like Old Tart's comments and think she is a productive member of our community.
And........... NO! I do not know her personally.
I agree, It's not up to me, or you, to decide who should or should not comment about politics. All I was trying to say is voting speaks louder than words. A resident can type 10,000,000,000,000,000 clever words and not make close to impact of one solitarty vote. That's my opinion, I know it's not popular....
