To whom it may concern. My wife & I just returned from St. John a few weeks ago. Our hearts always seem to be drawn to the Carribbian when we go on vacation. But this time it seems different. I feel this time that the Lord might be leading us to the Island in terms of ministering there. I am 47 years old & have been involved with many different ministries since accepting Christ back in 1980, after many years of drug abuse, etc. ( I know, I'm older than dirt!). Since being Christians we have found that life can & is very difficult at times. We have been through so much together that we probably could write a book! (probably like many others of you out there). I'm wundering (& praying) if the Lord might have a use for us on the Island. I've worked many years in the jail ministry, with youth, large venue concert promotion (mostly big-name nationally recognized performers), counseling, etc. We founded & ran a Christian night club called "The Rock" that brought in over a 100 christian bands in a 5 year period. We still have the sound & light system (very nice stuff) for use in ministry. I just spent over an hour reading on this message board (1st time on). It's an awesome tool, but I was just wundering - - - is there anyone out there that loves the Lord (Jesus) ? Any Islanders that I can make contact with? I feel, to a degree, like Abraham, who was called out - - - but not really knowing where he was going? I believe if the Lord is in fact calling me that he will also open the doors that is needed. This is a step in that direction. May the Lord bless all who read this!

May God bless you in your efforts. It is always impressive when adults keep the ministries that meet the needs of youth and those young at heart, in mind. All the best to you!

Welcom Bob,

Are you wanting to work in a ministry or volunteer while living and working here? What are your ideas?

Dear Islander, I am a woodworker at present. Actually, a cabinet-maker for private & business jets. I have over 30 years of woodworking experience and also 19 years of working with metals in the aerospace industry. My thoughts right now are this: come for a short term trip (a few weeks up to a few months). I immediately (step 2) would look for work. I'm told by an Island freind that this would be no problem & as a woodworker I would be paid very well. But I must be on the Island. The hardest part (if not impossible right now I'm told) is (step 1) finding a place to stay. Regardless, once I am on the island & have a job, my sole purpose would be to make contact with the believers on the island (St. John) as well as the churches & Christian leaders there. I believe (at least right now) that the only way for me to know for sure if this is the Lord's calling is to be on the island & "shake the bushes" to see what falls out, sorta-speak. This is a huge step and I'm only willing to do it if I know for sure, without a doubt, that God is in it. My wife is very supportive, and for the time being my 3 daughters are as well (only one would be coming to the island - - - if we were to move there). The others are close to graduating high school & probably going off to college immediately after. Until then I am doing a lot of praying, seeking the Lord, writing on this bulletin board & hoping that my friend on the island might somehow find a contact for me (i.e. housing & work - - - but mostly housing). Thankyou so much, Islander, for your question. May the Lord bless you! Bob P.S.- to answer your question (volunteer or not) it would definately be volunteer to start.

Hello Bob,

Your friend on island is correct, talented craftspeople whether its woodwork, metal work... get paid well once they are established in terms of private business or get in with an established business. What I would suggest is to do research, read, participate on this board - and plan another vacation to the islands a pre-move vacation where your intention is to meet people in your line of work and feel out the options, also to look for others in the Christian community that can assist with information on volunteer work. A pre-move visit is a good option for you so that you can figure out if moving is a fesiable option for you and your family. You might also look at schools for your daughter and if your wife works -work options for her. Do your homework now and plan a trip down to sort things out. All the best with your moving plans.
