cellular service
what companies work in St.Croix?? say for calling to florida without international or roaming charges????
AT&T seems to work good here. I got a phone set up in the states before I left. But I just did the "go-phone" where you put minutes on it. I don't know what kind of plans they have as far as long-distance calling goes, but their service is good and I know they have a store on island.

Sprint and Verison/att&t are the only real choices.
Version, with a stateside contract, is very expensive! With At&T there is no roaming or long distance charges.
I am with verizon now and they told me I would have service. But I am thinking I will have romaing and international charges right???
I did when I had VERISION. That is why I switched.
Betty may have meant Cingular/AT&T not Verizon/AT&T.
My father has Verizon and got a $400 phone bill after 10 days here - the roaming charges were outrageous! This was after he had called Verizon (prior to coming down) and was told that as long as it was in the US he would be "fine". Not so much.
No mention of T-Mobile, but last year I used my cell phone on St. Thomas and had no roaming charges. I'll be back on the island in August and will let it known if that has changed.
AT &T/ Cingular is the only reliable service to and from the states. Be sure who have a national plan. With AT&T there is less chance of floating to other island towers such as Puerto Rico or BVI.
You have as many minutes as your plan allows with NO roaming or long distance charges. Every other carrier has the potential for some problems.
Perhaps for stt you have problems with the towers but I've had sprint for 7 years now and no roaming problems. And sprint is great going back and forth. Either one is realiable on stx. The only think you miss out with on sprint is the iphone. After all my time with them my bill is so low I can't afford to leave them for the iphone. 🙁
The thing to remember when you look at renting your new home is do you have service. It'll save you the hassle of a land line unless of coarse you want one or need one.
i have at&t/cingular and here in stx, my coverage is better than my friend's sprint. this is also true in st thomas. i get signals where she doesn't. but when it comes to mobile broadband for my laptop, i use sprint because it is faster.
on caller id's, sprint is better because it shows up even stateside callers. on my at&t/cingular, non-landline and other provider cells show up only as either private or unknown.
hope this helps.
