cell service and nationwide long distance
Good evening all.
I was wondering about cell service on the islands. I am interested to know whether or not nation wide long distance applies to the USVI. I know that calls to all of the USVI are considered local but what about to the mainland? I have also read that there are some places, valleys and such where service isn't recieved (same as here) but I'd mostly like to know if calls to the mainland are included in the cellular long distance plans. I am also checking into Sprint as my carrier, but if anyone has anything to add, I'm all ears. Thanks everyone. elle
When I was looking for a cellular provider in the USVI it was apparent to me that Cingular was the way to go.
You can call anywhere in the 50 states with no long distance charges. You can connect with the Cingular network anywhere in the USVI so roaming isnt an issue.

I should also include calls made to US territiories, USVI, and Guam.

Hello Elle,
In general calls made within the USVI are local calls, no tolls of anykind.
Calls outside of the USVI are long distance to the mainland, Europe, other Caribbean islands....
Cellular Service plans and long distance calls; some plans include the USVI and the continental USA. Some don't depends on the plan.
Cingular and Sprint PCS Nation Wide Plans include the USVI. Sprint PCS has my vote, I've used it on St. Thomas, St. John, Puerto Rico, Florida, California, Texas.... and other states to call back and forth no roaming and no long distance... just regular airtime minutes. And depending on the plan you select you can get plans with unlimited nights and weekends which inlude the USVI and the USA. Cingular also offers nation wide and is available in the USVI.
As for losing signal in some spots on St. Thomas, yes if you are behind a mountain... particulary in some areas of east end and northside - you will lose signal.
