Cell phone service
I am planning my exploratory trip for three weeks arriving on St. Thomas after Thanksgiving. My intention is to relocate to St. Thomas. When I was on the island in the summer of 2005, my Verizon network phone worked there. I can't remember if there was an additional "roaming" charge. I would like to know if my Verizon phone will have coverage on my initial trip. Any help is appreciated.
You will be able to make and receive calls with Verizon on STT . . . BUT . . . it is really expensive. I don't remember the exact cost but we had Verizon before we moved and each time we were here our bill when we got home was ridiculous. I'm sure if you call they can give you an exact cost. You might want to consider a pre-paid phone with AT&T or Sprint or buy a calling card.
We have at&t cell phone service. Our "national" family plan is about $50 a month for two phones and enough minutes for our needs. This includes roaming and long distance, here in the VI and anywhere in the states. You need to avoid using a signal from The BVI or they will charge you a roaming fee.
I think Verizon also offers a national plan.
