cat vs iguana
in a face off between a cat and a decent size iguana...who wins? and on the same subject, how well do cats survive in the islands?
the iguana because he slaps with his tail, cats do just fine here as long as they still have their claws so they can climb trees to get away from the dogs that are trying to eat them.
Yes iguanas actually don't bite the use their tails as lashes in my case i had one in my backyard and i guess when i was walking around a brush the i had i step on her or something and she lash her tail to my leg it was not a big deal for me but i had a little cut near my ankle but it hurts for a little. I have a shitzu a Golden retriever and i just got a Rottweiler well 2 weeks a go my dog ripped apart an iguana in the terrace since then i have not seen any. In regards to little dogs just make sure they don't wonder around my themselves because they could be hurt either by the iguana or mongoose thar roam the hills in STT. Mongoose are very big rats with lots of Rabbies!!!!!!!!!!
There are no rabies in the Virgin Islands.
um correct me if i'm wrong but i don't think rabies is an issue down here as we don't have to have rabies vacinations for our dogs on STX at least

Your comment that Mongoose are big rats with rabies is NOT accurate. The Mongoose found in the USVI is a closer relative to a cat than a rat. I may be wrong, but I have never heard a reported case of a mongoose with rabies. In fact rabies is not considered a serious problem in the USVI, with only a few isolated cases being reported each year.
Well i am sorry i was told that i am not really a biologist i simply now they could bite?????????
Im glad to know that iguana don't bite.I was trying to "pet" one that lives here at my condo complex-he didn't like that. Although, the manager and housekeeper can pet him sometimes when he allows them to,he "stands up" when he wants to have attention. I thought about trying to catch a baby and keep it as a pet.
I think the iguanas are protected now. Not sure it's legal to keep as pets. They used to eat them.
They should still eat 'em. (td)
chicken of the tree, and when you pet them be sure to wash your hands afterwards, they are great carriers of salmonella
And if you have tiny animals like pups and kittens, watch out for chicken hawks, I know of someone who's new pet missed a 'swoop' or 2...
Iguanas do bite! I have seen it happen.
Juanita,
I have seen them bite the toes of women that had their toe nails polished red on more than one occasion, I just didn't want to slam rocky after the rabies thing. LOL
and on STT at bolongo's they eat french fries, nothing sadder to see than an iguana begging for human food
They eat pickles too. I've fed them at Fungi's. One even stepped on the grill. They're not real bright.
