Hello all. I am a mid-life (44 yrs.) professional who has had it with corporate mainland life. I presently manage a large multi-location lumber manufacturing company and have built high-end homes prior to this job. I am to the point where I read this board daily and want to get to the islands. St. Thomas is our preferred spot as we have been there several times for vacations and have looked around on each visit for property. I have been to both St. John and St. Croix and would be happy there also. I am thinking about selling the house, packing up my tools (about everything necessary to build a home) in a 16' work trailer and moving to the USVI. I am thinking I should be able to find plenty of work doing interior trim, carpentry, hanging cabinets, doors, installing windows, wood floors (maybe??, but something I am very good at), tiling, etc. I also have an in-depth understanding of lighting control systems, structured wiring and whole-house automation used in high end contruction in the US. I enjoy building custom homes and my goal would be to align myself with one of the better builders in the islands, learn the island way of construction, then possibly strike out on my own. I would think any residential or commercial builder would love to have someone who is honest, works very hard, shows up everyday, sticks to a job (3 in 22 years) and has strong abilities to plan and execute. If anyone reading this board has suggestions on the best island to move to or better than that any strong, reputable residential and commercial contractors I should contact please advise. Once there I look forward to meeting what seems to be an interesting group of people on this board.

If you want to visit STX for a couple weeks to check it out and do some renovation work while you are here in exchange for a place to stay, I have an opportunity for you. The work still needing done to complete a condo includes:
re-tile bathroom
hang new doors
hang a few light fixtures
put in a few new electrical outlets and switches
do a little concrete/mortar patching
paint kitchen and bathroom
Other work has already been completed by someone else who spent 3 weeks in the unit while renovating and still had lots of free time to have fun and explore. We hope to find someone to complete the work during the month of February.
