Carnival 09'
Anyone have the dates yet??? Gotta make my travel plans to get out of here...
Hi jay:
The VI Carnival Committee has not released the schedule yet, but the festivities usually begin after Easter, running until the end of the month of April (or into the first couple days of May) depending. Since Easter does not have a set date this changes a bit from year to year. My guess is that the Carnival Week activities will begin April 25 2009 and run through Saturday May 2 2009 for the Adults' Parade/Carnival Village close.
This is all just guesswork, but perhaps it will help with your vacation planning a bit. There are a number of related activities such as Calypso tents, pageants and boat races, that take place in the weeks leading up to the "last lap" (Carnival Week, when the village is open and there's nightly entertainment and lots of satellite activities and promotions). My fave is always the local Calypso finals!
I share this but someone else may have inside info that will go further.
Bookmark the Carnival Committee's web site ( http://www.vicarnival.com), and keep in mind that as soon as the three US Virgin Islands Carnival schedules are available, Islander posts them, too... so also bookmark VINow.
You would think that would be something that would be set at least two of three years in advance. It's so silly, especially when people do plan ahead. I am with A. It should be the last week of April culminating with the last two parade days on the 1st and 2nd of May.
Full schedule will be coming out very soon... likely by the end of the week.
Adult's Parade is May 2nd, 2009
Children's Parade May 1st
J'ouvert April 30th
Food Fair April 29th
