STX has a wonderful heart physician, Dr. Potts. I have a wonderful senior neighbor! Yesterday, about noon, she phoned to say she may be in distress and could not reach her Physician's office. My wife and I rushed to her aid. At first, we thought is was lunch and everyone was out to lunch. The senior subject eventually recovered. It was a scare, but more importantly, the inability to contact her heart doc was more scary! After over three hours of phoning his office she drove to the office to see if 1. They were there, 2. If he would check her out, 3. What the hell was going on with the phone?
Here are the results of the trip to office; 1. Office and Parking Lot was full, 2. He was most attentive and did put her through check up, she is fine., 3. Innovative cut the phone line last Tuesday and it has not been repaired yet!! Can you imagine, Cardiac Heart Doctor cannot be reached in emergency!! What the hell is going on with this? Innovative has not responded!!
You might say, well why did she not go to the emergency room? Considered the trip and she did not want to waste the afternoon waiting and she lived only 2 minutes from Dr. Potts' office. At the time, she was improving.
I wanted to vent. I am in the process of changing to Broadband and Paradise TV. I am dumping the land line. Take that bundle Innovative!

I wonder if the phone line was cut by the "wonderful" folks trenching the road for the "wonderful" VINGN broadband crap.
While trenching the road in Hermon Hill a few weeks ago, they mistakenly cut the Innovative phone lines! At least they repaired them the next day.
I'll bet the same thing happened there.

Another reason anyone living in STX with the ability and means should know current CPR techniques and/or own their own AED -- particularly if you or someone you care about has heart issues. You cannot depend on the local infrastructure to help you. I just got recertified a week ago through the American Heart Association, and the current recommended CPR techniques are COMPLETLY different than what you may have been originally taught in, say, Boy Scouts, or from watching ER reruns. A sailing friend of mine on STX nearly died were it not for the quick thinking of another who knew someone who lived close by and owned an AED. There is no way an ambulance from JFL would have gotten to him in time.
Glad to hear your neighbor is okay, and that your neighbor has good neighbors!

Another shout out for Dr. Potts. Ric had a scare lin 2011. Potts saw him right away and was very professional and knowledgable.

Whether you know the current or older methods of CPR, the important thing to remember is the old methods did work, so better to use the old method than no method at all in an emergency, if you are not current. Keeping someone alive is what is important until you can get help.(tu)(tu)

Somebody can tell Dr. Potts (or anybody else with a dead Innovative land line): You can ask Innovative to forward the non-working number to another working number, so you can still receive calls. They always honor my request to forward the number. You don't have to be unreachable for days or weeks.

My phone was out for 3 months because the lines in the road had to be redone, and Innovative didn't have cables..Innovative would forward my calls but charged me for it.

Were the calls forwarded long distance? I've always forwarded to another local land line, so I assume that is free. I don't see the bills to know if there is a charge for local forwarding while waiting for repairs.

They can also forward to a local cell phone.

Um, cuz the STX hospital has two ambulances and it can often take over an hour to get one. Even driving someone yourself can waste valuable time depending on where you are. That's why I recommend everyone know current CPR and have access to an AED if they have a loved one with a known heart condition and you want to live on STX.
Also, much of the STX hospital is horribly understaffed and undereducated.
YMMV.
ETA: Cardiac arrest (the title of this thread) is NOT the same thing as a heart attack, however, both need immediate attention. A heart attack gives you a little wiggle room to get medical assistance (but not the hour it may take to get an EMT on the scene) unless they go into cardiac arrest, however, cardiac arrest pretty much means they're dead unless you start CPR toute suite.

My thoughts exactly.
Even if the doc had answered they would have said get to the hospital any way you can.
Do not blow off symptoms of heart attack even if they subside. Period.
