Car Too Big?
When I make my move I was planning on bringing my 99 Ford Expedition. After reading some more and seeing some pictures of the roads, would this vehicle be too big to be practical there?
The Taxi vans are bigger than your Expedition8-)
Thanks Lizard - makes life much easier not having to buy something else to drive!
Our friends have one here and love it.
It depends on which island you pick and where you live on that island. I know someone who is selling his F350 work truck on STJ for no reason besides that its size is a bit of a hassle for him to drive everywhere daily.
(Of course, if you want to rent a two-bedroom place with a pool and hot tub for $2500, you'll not be on STJ anyway.)

There are many oversized SUV's around. I would rather drive a beat up little Suzuki because it parks better in town, is cheaper to gas and is not stolen as often. Parking in Christiansted is tight and even more so with a big gas hog. But, You have lots of company with the big gas guzzlers. Driving around should be no problem.
There is a municipal parking lot in Christiansted that you can park a tank in, if you can't find a parking spot in front of the store you want to go in. I don't know much about the stolen SUV's as stated. Most of my neighbors have SUV's or Van's and never had a problem. The municipal lot is always half empty. I drive a full size ford 350 Van and never had a parking problem. As far as Gas, we live on an island.*-)
"As far as Gas, we live on an island."
I love that line!
We were parked at the little strip center at Peter's Rest a couple of days ago, and on either side of us were two of the biggest vehicles ever! I almost got out to direct my husband backing out, but we made it..LOL. We were discussing what appears to be a disproportionate amount of really HUGH trucks and SUV's here on little ol' STX. I understand if you need the tonnage, power, etc. in a work truck, but most of the ones I see are spotlessly spiffy clean. I haven't heard anything about SUV's being stolen either.
If you are good with parallel parking you should not have a problem.
Thanks everybody for the information!
Just reading these forums I feel a certain sense of community that I rarely even experience in 'real life'. If this is the way the people are on island, I know I will love it!
