car shipping sorry!
I know this has been discussed but I have a couple questions and can not find the answers in old posts.
I called lee @ managed freight and left him a message yesterday morning and he has not gotten back to me yet.
I was wondering:
1. Can you ship personal belongings in your car. Load it?
2. Based on pricing down there I can not afford a $300 payment a month would it be wise to ship?
3. My car is a japanese made toyota camry and is worth about $5,500 to $6,500 but it runs great and never had a problem. Are there parts and mechanics as it is a 96 with 95,000 miles.
Thanks, Jon
Jon,
Look at the messages just written a day or so ago titled "Shipping." It will give you an idea of pricing.
As for loading the car, you can take up to a certain weight, but you can't fill it up completely.
And, you may want to consider selling it in the States and buying one here, as it will cost almost 1/3 of the car's value just to ship it here. And, IMHO, there are too many cars here now, so bringing another will just add to the congestion. There are many cars here for sale, and if you sell yours for $5K, you could buy 2 really good "island cars" here. Or buy one and put some $$ in the bank!
If you do pack your car full of stuff, make sure it doesn't go above the window levels of the car and that the front seats are clear. Also, you can not ship any computer equipment in your car. I don't know why, but we were told it would not get past customs if any computer or electronic equipment was in the car. Strange but true. You will also have to pay a foreign car tax when it arrives here. I second the idea to buy here. Too many cars here already! We definitely won't ship again.
