Car rental question

Hey People!

Pete and I are coming down in September and planning on staying until the end of November. (STT)

Now, we *can* rent by the month with some of the bigger car rental companies, as well as EZ at the Anchorage, for a slight discount. but we're still looking at about $1k per month.

buying a used car is an option, but comes with the added headache of getting insurance and then having to sell it at the end of our stay.

A lease from a dealer isn't really realistic as they generally want you to have their cars for upwards of a year.

Is there another option that I haven't thought of? Does anyone know of anyone who rents cars to "not-quite-snowbirds" for a lesser fee?

on the heels of this question, let's say we buy a car that we think we're going to keep for a while - we're down there often enough to justify it...

Now, our condo only comes with one parking space. Since we rent the condo out when we're not there, we need that space for our guests.

Is there anywhere reasonably safe on the island to store a car when we're not there?

Anyone got space in their side-yard they want to lend us for - say- $100 a month?? lol...

Thanks -
Pam 🙂

Keep in mind if you use you at-home insurance policy to cover car rentals it likely only covers something like the first 21 days of rental without special rider. Check with your insurance co. for details. Credit cards may have a similar restriction to check on. Does your HOA have any long term off the beaten path storage locations for snowbirds? Ours does (we opted for that instead of tennis court.)

thanks - I'll look into that. currently we don't have any car insurance (we live in NYC and don't have a car) and always just cover ourselves with the car companies and credit cards.

will check with my HOA but pretty sure Cowpet doesn't have anything like that....

You can probably rent a storage unit at fortress storage that'll fit your car.
I'll send you a PM of another possible option.

Maybe consider buying a car, keeping it at Cowpet, including it as part of the condo rental ----with the proper insurance coverage for that .
