Car prices
Is there a tremendous amount of inflation in the price of cars on St.Thomas to that of cars stateside? Can anyone give me some of their own personal stories, how much they paid for a particular car, things like this, I would grately appreciate it. I have a 2001 Honda and I don't know if I should sell before I come or ship it.
Thanks DJ
I recommend selling it at home and buying another when you get here. The cars here are comparable to Stateside prices, plus approx. $1,000-1,500 more for the shipping. What I mean to say, is if you are looking at a car in the States for $5K, here you will pay approx. $6K-$6,500 for it.
Thanks Marty - that is exactly what i was looking and hoping for.
Anytime!
The only thing about buying an island car is that they never get above 25 mph and climb or descend mountains all day every day. The mechanics can be hit or miss. If you have a dependable car, I wouldn't get rid of it. You never know the story behind the cars here. Island life be relaxing for people, but it certainly isn't for the cars!
It's true that the island does take it's toll on cars, but if you get one that has only been on island for a short while, your chances of getting a well maintained car are much greater. My wife's '02 Wrangler had only been on island about a year when we bought it from our next door neighbors that were leaving island. It spec'd out on Kelly Blue Book at $16,035 and we only paid $14K for it. Great deal. The deals are out there if you look.
