Car necessity?

I am currently "surviving" without a car now, and it's going on a month.

I sense the need for one, just for the sake of wanting to explore so much more than I have, or seem to be able to using the safari taxis, and also for the basics of lugging water and major shopping day stuff home, without having to ask a neighbor or take a taxi.

If you're planning on staying here for a good long while, I would highly recommend finding transportation as soon as possible.

Would u consider it more cost effective to buy one in the states or just buy one on the island.

If you live close to work, grocery ect. then you can make due without the car like Paul is doing.... but if you live in say the West End of the island or northside - being car less is a big problem.

Shipping or buying here depends on: what type of car do you have that you would like to ship? Is is American or Foreign - as this affects tax that you have to pay or not pay; is it large or small - affects road tax which is affected by weight; where are you at in the US - which affects cost of shipping... you can buy used cars here - the price is often more then the same car would cost in the US - however if the taxes and shipping cost is accounted for then it may or may not be about even... Some people say they are glad they bought here others say they wish they had shipped.... search this board - there is an option at the top of the first post that says search... search for cars, transportation, used cars, shipping cars - there have a been quite a few discussions about it, cost, if to ship or not....
