USAA is the absolute cheapest! My rate went from approximately $750/year for my car and motorcycle, combined, to $185/YEAR!!!!! Yay! They also offer a host of other services for ex-military and their relatives (Father/Mother/Son/Daughter, as I understand it). This company ROCKS! I switched from ScotiaBank to them, as well, and now do all of my banking via my iPhone! Even depositing checks! I have their credit card (better interest rates than others). And I have Renter's Insurance for 20K thru them for only $135/year, and this INCLUDES hurricane coverage! They treat their members fantastically! Can't recommend them enough.

If anyone has any feedback on making a claim on USAA and how they respond I'd appreciate hearing hit. Jon was on here a while ago and mentioned difficulty in getting a claim satisfied through them and I was wondering if anyone else had any more input.

The local insurance companies are ridiculously overpriced but of course not everyone can get USAA (although the number of folks who qualify is steadily increasing as they loosen their membership requirements).

Just before Thanksgiving they opened their membership to anyone and families who were at anytime in the service. There usedto be some cutoff date and not all was ellidgble. Tried years ago to get my dad, a WWII vet enrolled but couldn't but after seeing it again on this board have now gotten my father-in-law signed up and now us. We are saving over a thousand a year with better coverage.

As I understand it though, your relative has to also purchase car insurance from them, correct? That is the sticking point for me, while USAA is by far the best deal here there are other competitive options in the states. My dad doesn't want to switch as he knows his broker or something so I was still out of luck the last time I tried to get USAA.

On the upside I found out that Marshall Sterling will notarize documents for you for free yesterday if you have insurance through them...if I notarize 200 more documents I may break even on their insurance pricing 🙂

stiphy,
You can always join the VI National Guard and get the USAA insurance on your own merit.:D

Um, there is no "merit" required to buy car insurance at USAA, just a family member who has it too and the cash to pay for it.

Anyway, I'm not going to allow yet another thread be disrupted by a troll so that's all I'll say.

A Veteran Pal! or a family member of a Veteran! Or Active military Service and their family members, may purchase insurance thru USAA that's the requirement and the merit! The sponsor (Veteran or Active Duty member) must be insured for family member to participate.
That's a fact not a disruption. Grow up Kid.8-)

I wish I still had to grow up as getting old sucks. Unless by "growing up" you mean getting pathetically bitter and disruptive with nothing to do all day except trying to pick fights with people you don't know on a message board. In that case I'll pass!

Oops I fed the troll.

Stiphy,
I guess this means the lunch date is cancelled! Calling me names will not help you buy with your money a policy with USAA.:P
