Cane Bay Crime

I was thinking of staying at Cane Bay for the first few weeks of my relocation, but I just saw this posting on TripAdvisor:
*******************************************************************
While snorkeling in the lovely Cane Bay our car door was ripped open
with a metal bar in broad daylight in front of the restaurant. All our cash, cell phones and cameras were stolen. We were told that since just before Christmas the area has had many robbings and a several muggings, no one has been caught. I would avoid the area as none of the locals seem to see anything.
*******************************************************************

Thoughts?

Would you leave all of that stuff in your car at a beach at home. I know I would not. People need to be just as careful as thy would be in their home state.

Car breakins happen fairly often in Cane Bay. We're in the habit of leaving our cars empty and unlocked while we're away from them. So far no problems. I'm not aware of any "muggings" in CB although the restaurants occasionally get robbed.

The trunk opener that's on the inside of my car is broken. We can put all our things in the trunk, leave the car unlocked and still our things are (fairly) safe.

I've lived on the North Shore for about 10 yrs.
Cars get hit on any beach. Including Shoys evidently,.. from another post.

I would not hesitate to stay on the North Shore.

The surest way to have NOTHING stolen out of parked cars at beaches or beach bar/restaurants, regardless of where the beach or bar/restaurant is located, is to leave NOTHING in the car. Also leave the car unlocked. That way there's NOTHING to steal and you won't have a broken car window when you return to your vehicle. These yahoo's who have nothing better to do than scope out people parking their car are always scoping out places all over this island. I consider Cane Bay where we live as being realtively safe because we don't leave any valuables in our car.
