Cane Bay Beach Bar Robbery
Okay I hate to keep the beating the donkey on this but West Indian really does not mean non-white. I know plenty of white people who were born here, families have been here for generations and they consider themselves West Indian. Not "technically", but culturally, socially, accent wise, etc etc It seems we run in different social circles but just be aware that not everyone you know has all the definitive answers. I don't by no means, but there are different opinions and viewpoints floating around out there. I really do think you have to look at these "categories" per say as less ethnically based and more culturally based. It's not so black and white, no pun intended.
For example, you will find very few Puerto Ricans that would use "West Indian" as their cultural identifier in the same way a St Lucian or a Jamaican or a Virgin Islander would call themselves West Indian. Similarly, though part of the geographic "West Indies" most Cubans do not identify themselves as West Indian. A more appropriate categorization of all peoples within the geographic "West Indies" would be "Caribbean".
Your Wikipedia and "Answers.com" sources give basic, superficial answers to what is really a much more complicated cultural web of identity throughout the region.
