Cancer Clinic info
Does anyone have any more first hand knowledge about the new cancer center(on STT)???? LA
They had the dedication last week, although it will be at least April before they start radiation therapy services. They hope to move chemotherapy out of the hospital a bit sooner.

joel, LA, et al: There was an article in the VI Daily News this week on the staff of the new center. I think you can access it here: http://www.virginislandsdailynews.com/index.pl/article_home?id=12698187
Good morning everyone. I am the administrative Director of the Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute here in St. Thomas. We have one of the most beautiful building, along with top of the line equipment for our institute. We had our dedication on January 17, 2006 with Dr. Freeman of the National Cancer Institute as our guest speaker. We will be "going live" with our first radiation treatment sometime in April if this year. In the meantime we will be transitioning our current chemo therapy patient to the center on or about the first of March.
Some of the services we will be offering will be: Radiation Therapy, Chemo therapy, Research and Clinical trails, a Patient Navigator Program, Tumor Registry, community education, screening and early detection, Nutrition services, Social and Pastorial counseling, and other related services not only to the Virgin Islands, but to other islands in the Caribbean as well.
Each month we highlight the awareness of a specific cancer, the highlight for last month was Cervical Cancer, February we skip, but continue to highlight general education, March is Colon and Kidney etc.
Please give us a call at 340-776-8311 X 2289,4441,4442 and we will be delighted to answer questions you may have. Until then .
Thanks Renee for the update.
