I have the ticket, I have the friend moving with me and about 1000 dollars of my own. We leave on the 13th of November and arrive the same day in St. Thomas and have no idea where we are going to live but we are hoping to live in St. John. Can we do it, coming so late? Where could we keep our luggage? We had a friend who went down before us and lived there last year but she is coming back on Tuesday saying she didn't like it anymore and that crime has gone up.... i dont want to leave a good job and home to fall on my butt. Any advice????PLEASE!!

Why don't you try to get a room for a few days while you scout around. That way you at least have a place to go and a homebase to go apartment hunting and job hunting.

Arriving with no place to sleep is pretty poor planning and your chances of actually having a positive experience are close to zero.

Crime has gone up? Where? STT or STJ? Those 2 islands are very different.

$1000 also seems a bit short for seed money. You have to be very cognizant of your bankroll while you are down here. That amount will leave you with NO room for liesure activities. You need to make that last until you have a job and that can be rough if you are spending $50 a day on drinks and entertainment.

Only spend on food, lodging and transportation until you can find a source of income.

Try contacting Ronnie Lockhart at The Crystal Palace here on St.Thomas, as a place to stay while you secure an apt on St.John. The Crystal Palace is a B&B in a historic townhouse in Charlotte Amalie.

Seed money: need to remember that to rent an apt here, as in most places in the states, you'll need 1st and last months rent PLUS security deposit! Not sure that your $1,000 will cover that.

Hello Sarita,

Can you arrange perhaps to get your friends place? She must have been staying in an apartment or as a roommate...
