Calling all families moving to St. Croix w/ young children.....
Hello,
My husband, Mark, and I have enjoyed reading these boards! We have decided to make the move to St. Croix. We have visited and enjoyed the island and the people very much! We are hoping to make the move by Fall 2005, but realistically it may be by Fall 2006. We would like our oldest daughter to start kindergarten at the St. Croix Country Day School in the Fall of 2005. If we don't make it by then, she will start 1st grade there in Fall 2006.
Anyway, I have seen many families on this board who are also making this move with young children. I have seen many parents mentioning homeschooling which has been of interest to us, as well.
The point of this post was that Mark and I are interested in getting in touch with these families prior to moving. That way we will be able to share our experiences and learn from others making a similar move. Also, we will already have families with young children to plan playdates with when we arrive. Having young children to meet right away may make the move easier for the children.
We have two daughters--5 years and 2 1/2 years--and a son--just 8 weeks. Any of you families out there who wouldn't mind making contact with us would be very appreciated!!
Have a great day!!

Hi Kat,
Glad to here of another family moving to STX. My husband and I along with our 3 1/2 year old daughter will be moving from NY to STX in 2006. We'd love to get together sometime, I'm sure it will be lonely for the kids and us parents at first! E-mail me if you'd like to talk.
Hello Kat, christine, and all!
I am planning to relocate to STX this summer - just in time for my daughter to enter kindergarten - I too have been looking at Country Day. I have a son who will be in 2nd grade. My husband arrived in STX today, and will be looking for living accomadations for our family - I'll let you know how that goes! Let's keep in touch - I would love to have some contacts with children! As far as home schooling, I am a teacher, by profession, and have no desire to homeschool my own children (perhaps because I teach high school - and love that curriculum), but also, I find that the dealing with different teaching styles and personalities enhances my childrens' educational experiences. I have nothing against homeschooling - it's just not for us. Good luck with your endeavors - Keep us all informed!

Hi, we got to STX Saturday with our 6.5yo girl and 3.5yo boy. Oh man it's different, that's for sure!
Anyway, we plan to homeschool our kids. I am sure Good Hope and Country Day are great schools, an alternative to public school at any rate. But our family isn't terribly interested in instututionalized education for our young children. If you want to discuss any aspects of homeschooling, please feel free to email me at stxhsmom @ yahoo .com (remove spaces).
We live in Christiansted right now, but I think we are going to be looking to rent a house in a different area.
Good luck!

Hello to Christine, LW, and Brandy (and all others on this board!)
Thank you for your replies to my post! I would love to keep in touch with each of you as we get closer to making our move to St. Croix a reality. I sent private messages to Christine and LW because your emails are hidden and I sent you, Brandy, an email. Basically, I was just saying Hello and giving each of you my email.
My husband, Mark, and I have moved all over for our past jobs, but now that we have 3 children, we want to stop the chaos and move somewhere that we really want to live. We believe that St. Croix is the place. We are looking to find a community where we can grow roots and raise our family. It helps to know that other families with young children are making a similar move! Especially when most of our friends and family don't understand.
I'm looking forward to getting to know each of you better and meet you at some point in St. Croix!!
Anyone else with young children who wants to jump in here with us is welcome!!
Kat
