CA Senate Candidate Attacked for Spending Thousands on Hotels
California Senate Candidate Kamala Harris has been attacked for spending PRIVATELY RAISED CAMPAIGN FUNDS on one-night stays in expensive hotels, including one stay at the Four Seasons in Boston. Imagine if PUBLIC FUNDS were used to pay for her to LIVE in the Ritz Carlton?
Apparently, is very unusual for politicians to ever stay in luxury hotels, as “There are Hampton Inns in every city,” said one national Democratic strategist.
Why do we allow Mapp to use taxpayer funds to live in the Ritz Carlton? Apart from the question of its legality, why hasn't the Senate forced him out?

I'm no fan of Mr Mapp but from where is this information coming? There was a furor some six months ago about he and his entourage staying at the Ritz Carlton in NYC for a week; and there have been reports of his staying occasionally at the Ritz on STT (and the Marriott on STT and the Westin on STJ) for a night here and there but "living" at the Ritz Carlton here?
It's well known that he has been living at the Ritz since his departure from Estate Fratelli. The Consortium has covered it:
Ritz employees have taken pictures of him there and posted them on social media as well.
Even if he's not staying at the Ritz, it speaks volumes that the public is unsure in the first place. Taxpayers are paying for his lodging, yet we don't know to whom we are paying the fee?
The article you linked was from July. But "even if he's not ..." Better to ask questions or do research before stating something as fact.

Your tax dollars are paying for the governor's living expenses and you have no idea where he's staying. How does that make you feel? 8-)8-)

The point is that neither do you and you created a thread around an assumption delivered as fact very loosely based on media reports from six months ago.
Wherever it is, you can bet we're paying a pretty penny for it.
Along with everything else including his 45 plus relatives that are now employed by the VI Government, in addition to his new administrative assistant, a recently hired nurse to care for his mother.
It's positively mind boggling that the abuse of public funds by this governor continues to go unimpeded by the Legislature and the AG.

and yet nothing changes

This should hammer it home regarding public records access.
Have to wonder what Mapping is thinking about this pronouncement considering his lawsuit.
And there was this in the STT Source

Mapp is very disingenuous if he thinks it's perfectly fine for the taxpaying public to be picking up the tab for his luxury sheets and other personal spending. That's what his salary is for.
That's what his salary is for.
it's only 120,000 though right? (more than the Gov of PR?) I mean how do we expect him to scrape by making 6x what the average VI dweller does?

It's actually $150,000. By contrast, the Governor of Puerto Rico, a territory of 4 million people, earns $70,000. Our SENATORS make more than the Puerto Rican GOVERNOR.
At least the acting governor of PR has a residence. Poor Mapp has to suffer staying at hotels. He has to make good money to pay the credit card he was given. Oh, Snap! Wait a minute...
