Buying a Car Stateside, Shipping it Here?

Has anyone done this? Without leaving island to do it? And feels like taking the time to explain the process to me?

I am looking at a truck in the Orlando area (where I have friends/family) and having them take care of the transaction and getting it to where it needs to go. Not really sure how to handle the insurance, tags, which shipping company will give the best price, etc. I know there are threads about shipping cars here, but I can't seem to find them. But I don't ever recall anyone posting about buying a car stateside then having it shipped here. Thanks for any pointers!!

Hello
I recently used Top of the line transport. We lived in Orlando and you can ship out Port Everglades or Jacksonville. You can fill the car with household goods for an additional $350. I also paid extra to have them change the title tags etc. all we did was pick up the car and it was ready to go. The communication is a little vague but they got the job done. I communicated through email with Andre and every answer was one word answers. I eventually put the pieces together but in the end it really was an easy process. We paid 2750 but that was with the "works" and we shipped a Honda Pilot. We are very happy we did it knowing the mechanics of our own car. Hope this helps

Thanks! Had another person recommend Sea Star as well. It would be a hell of a lot easier to find a decent used truck in the VI darn it!

We purchased a new Ford Explorer in Miami last year over the web. We wired the funds to the dealer and they delivered the vehicle to Crowley. It was here on STX the next week. No problems and all was good.

We used Sea Star out of Jacksonville, but you need to have some coordinate it for you. We used International Logistics out of STT. Speak to Meme. Our cars are in transit right now to STX. Good luck. Shouldn't be any problems. You pay when your car arrives and they can get tags for you all you provide is the title and insurance proof. If vehicle is financed you will have to have a letter from title holder saying it is ok to transport to islands.

I HIGHLY recommend V.I.Cargo! A friend and I just shipped our trucks, with horse trailers attached, with them and it could not have been easier. They gave me the best price by far, and the price they quoted was the price I paid.... no hidden charges in the end. I can not say enough good things about the experience! (Well, except for that driving truck and trailer from NJ to FL with two cats and a dog winging the whole 35 hours). 😮

Thank you for the suggestion to call Meme. We got in touch with her and she helped clarify a lot of things and we are going to go ahead with her. She's done this a lot, knows just what needs to be done, and seems like a heck of a lot easier to have her take care of it. She isn't unreasonably priced either.

One issue that I ran into was buying a used car in FL from a private party. Then came the issue of having to either get the car insured and registered in FL (and paying sales tax), or asking the seller to hold the registration and insurance until we could get it to port, or having the car towed. We lucked out and the seller agreed to hold registration and insurance until it gets to Jacksonville.

If all goes as planned, the truck will be on Sea Star next week Tuesday. I will give an update once it arrives. Thanks again for all of the suggestions!!! I am looking forward to being a two car family soon 🙂
