butcher shops in STT
I've asked this question before but did'nt really get a response. To the locals- do you think a butcher/meat market would be a good business venture? Thanks for your time -LOVE this site!!
Hmm. Tough call. I think if thats what you have as a skill I would say go for it. But I think if you are starting up a business there are PLENTY of other opportunities that would succeed.
This island is ripe for small niche businesses. If you are going to do the meat thing you need to be competitive against Marina Market by having that kind of quality and either compete on price or location. Living on the northside there is nothing in the way of fresh meat so competing and getting a certain side of the island would be your best bet.
My suggestion: Get a good place downtown open a deli/butcher shop. Hook up with the cruise boats, talk to the tourism council basically they will advertise your business on the boat before they get off, and open a place where you can get a good quick sandwich with boar's head meats and nice foccacia bread or something like that. There are no, really good quick places to eat. Then I would grab the cruise ship people venturing downtown in the morning and have quick breakfast food, although now that I tihnk about it they probably ate breakfast on the boat. Not everyone has time to sit and eat, and have bag lunches for them to grab in th morning to take with them on their adventures.
Now you've just sold 2 meals in one transaction per person. Many of the people working downtown don't have a nice sandwich shop for lunch. I would go after the local businesses, offer them delivery, and just make good quality sandwiches quickly.
I majored in Entrepreneurship in College and have written many a business plans so sorry if I went a little long. I typically do that regardless of the topic.
Hello,
There used to be a butcher shop on St. Thomas years ago. It was located in Tutu... which I think would be a good location for another one; this area is the commerical hot spot for residents (Banks, grocery, k-mart, mall, gas station, fruit stand, fish stand, bulk store, restaurants)... Red Hook is another. If you are a butcher/meat market then you are specializing in this and I would assume you would be carrying better cuts and product than the grocery stores. I have heard people complain about meat selections at the grocery stores lots and lots of times - so there is certainly room for improvement and with any business you would need to find the right spot and market your place well to get the word out. I also think you would need to get with local restaurants and resorts to supply them with meats. Research this idea more!!
There is one on St. Croix... perhaps you can look into what they offer, how they do ect...
