Good Afternoon,

My husband and I were considering moving down to St. Croix, more specifically Bugby Hole (Spring Garden Estates), and we were wondering if anyone had any information on that area. We have visited St. Croix numerous times and each time it just gets harder for us to leave and come back to the states. We have looked at many areas and Bugby Hole and Estate Humbug were the two we narrowed it down to. Any information would be helpful. Thank you.

Have you visited those areas? There are some incredible houses in those estates and some very much not so incredible. Its a street by street kinda estate. If you get high enough up in bugby you can get north and south views, so there are definitely some high priced homes and they are both centrally located. I'm not familar with spring garden estates but I'm sure someone else will be.

Hello

I currently live in Bugby Hole. It is a great area to live. It is a quiet area. Not to many people know about the area. In fact if you mention it to many people they wont have clue where it is. Spring Garden Estates is quickly becoming a popular location. In fact nowadays I am awaken by the cement trucks delivering cement at 6AM. Like the previous post stated if you get high enough, there are remarkable views. From what I learned about the Spring Gardens it was supposed to be one of the premier housing developments on the island but when Hurricane Hugo struck in 1989 many people pulled out and cancelled building contracts leaving large plots of land wide open. Now some 18 years later people are now realizing how beautiful the area is. If there is a drawback about Spring Garden is that it can get a bit confusing at first. There are no street signs, no street lights and the roads are very narrow. In fact someone I know got into an accident on one of the roads and totalled their car. But all in all I think it is a fantastic place to live and would purchase property their in a heartbeat! It is very safe because of how it is situated and you wont have to deal with a lot of noisy and/or nosy neighbors...at least for now. Well good luck to you.

Glen,

I had another question. I know that Bugby Hole is a little bit of a distance from Hess, but do you see or smell it? I was told that being on the east side of the island you most likely will not smell it because of the direction the wind blows, but it can hinder your view. Thanks again.

I am interested in a reply to your question regarding Hovensa. We are looking at a piece of property in Bugby Hole, and that is something I am worried about...

I've never noticed any smell from Hovensa except right on Hess Road. As far as the view is concerned, rather than obstruct the view, from a distance the lights on the towers look very nice at night.

I too think it looks very pretty at night. Just know while you get credit for having a sea view you get less if you can see Hovensa in that view(as far as equity and resale go). You would think Hovensa would be the money view with all the money they bring into STX but Buck Island is the money view.
