I hope this isn't true. The Buccaneer is one of the last of the great family owned and operated resorts, as well as our most favorite place in the world to vacation.

Linda J, know anything about this?

Not true- been in the rumor mill for over a year now. Still the same owners, still family run and operated.

Yeah, we've been hearing the rumors for over a year. Untrue, as far as I can tell. My checks are still being signed by the same people. The Armstrong family has considerable holdings on STX and over the past year or two, there has been some reorganization, taking over the day to day operations at Gallows Bay for one. But for today at least the Buccaneer is still family owned and operated.

That being said, the Armstrongs don't consult me when making decisions, so what do I know? You know what they say, everything is for sale at the right price? lol

For the six years before I retired again, I worked directly for Doug Armstrong. These rumors have popped up for quite some time. First there was the rumor that one of the local real estate agencies had the hotel listed. Why would they list the hotel with an agent when they had one right on property? It didn't happen.

Next , I was told that the hotel had been sold to a guy named David from California. I asked Doug about it and his response was "How much did I get and where's my check?" It didn't happen.

The last rumor I heard was that Doug and Elizabeth had refused an offer of $65 million for the hotel. When I asked Doug about it, his response was "Find this person and tell him I'll take the deal." It didn't happen.

The Buccaneer is the Armstrong's largest asset. I would be shocked if they sold it. The are either selling or have sold a hotel they own in Ashville, NC. I don't know it the deal has been completed yet.

latest one I heard was about a month ago..."BOB bought it for $65 mil"... who comes up with this? and why do they keep using that price?

When I asked who BOB was... nobody could answer that one. it was pretty funny.

Last week all Realtors received an email (from a fellow Realtor), with a statement from Mrs. Armstrong that the hotel had not sold and was not for sale.

I do find it interesting that for some reason this particular property is so often the subject of this rumor.

If you win $100,000,000 why would you want to buy a hotel? You should re-read "Don't Stop the Carnival".

Thanks, Linda, for that reminder. Actually, I have read that book several times (funnier each time I read it). Thanks for the kick of reality. Instead, I'll just permanently lease one of those "Doubloons" units.
