Book Stores
Are there any big name book stores like Borders or Barnes and Noble on ST Croix?
Or is there only small 'mom and pop' book stores?
Cheers in advance for a response.
Nope
Just small book stores though pretty good ones
and there's always Amazon

I always buy locally when I can. I only go online if someone gives me a gift card or if my local store cannot find something. Dockside books on St. Thomas (Havensite) does special orders and they will call you when it arrives. They also have a program that gives you store credit for buying so many books. Sschweet!
I second Anita - when I lived on the island my brother and I bought hundreds of books at Dockside. Despite many being destroyed/sold, I still have quite a few of them, but they have mostly moved over for my library of computer related books.
On STX we have 2 bookstores, Treasure Attic downtown and the bookstore in Gallows Bay - can't think of the name. There may also be an education supply store that has books.
And, of course, the animal shelter flea market, my personal favorite.
The store in Gallows Bay is called Undercover Books located right next to Anna's Cafe. They have a great selection (much better than in years past), the staff makes really good recommendations and they do special orders as well. They only charge $1 per book for shipping (much cheaper than Amazon). Undercover also has a decent selection of used books and you can bring in yours for credit towards buying used books. I always buy my books locally now that I have found a good bookstore!
Treasure Attic only deals in paperbacks.
The people are very nice, but the place seems dingy as compared to Undercover, which is very bright and clean.

It's a great store!

I was scrolling through this thread about finding the perfect bookstore when you move to a new city, and it took me back to my own hunt for a cozy reading spot during a relocation. It’s funny how moving brings both excitement and the challenge of putting your experiences into words. I used to struggle with capturing that vibe until I started using essaybox—it really helped me shape my thoughts naturally without feeling forced. It’s been a subtle boost that made sharing my story a lot clearer for fellow book lovers.
