we're thinking about selling our boat in California so I thought I would see what kind of response I get here since we all live all over the place. If it doesnt sell that's ok too,we want to sail it over there (STX) in the fall. The boat is 35' 1969 Islander one of only three sister ships ever made like her. beautiful wood inside,rare flat deck vintage,aft cabin,v-berth.....

Put it in the classified section on this forum and also hang a posting at boattrader.com or boats.com with pictures and use a VI address to gauge interest (probably find more interest in Tortola area or Puerto Rico is my guess.) Bad news you will have to pay to ship it here but good news because of the bad news and rareness of options here if you find a buyer you'll probably make more here than mainland.

Start now looking into the time involved, expense and the equipment and skill set needed to sail a 35' boat from California to the Virgin Islands -- then sell it in California.

Yes it IS!
And,if you want to do it, go for it!
I did,& I`ll never forget my adventures!
Or you can dismantle it, truck it to Florida, & Dockwise it here(& all you`ll remember is writing the check)

Suggestions;
Carry LOTS of spares,learn how to replace them.
There are dangers(be careful), learn to live what you have,be resourceful, slow down.
Use at least two different types of navigation,there`s lots more,do your homework.

Remember, none of this is very hard,don`t let anyone discourage what you want to do.
