Bicycle Clubs - St Croix
Are there any bicycle clubs on St Croix? Is the club a racing clubs or is it a recreational/ touring group?
Are there any regualrly scheduled bicycle rides on St Croix either fast training or recreational?
Any information anyone could provide about bicycling on St Croix would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Peter
I see lots and lots of bicycles lately! I think everyone is getting ready for the half-triathlon next month.
Bicycling seems more popular on STX because we do have long stretches of good asphault, and one incredibly difficult hill on the west end nicknamed "The Beast". That is where the triathlon bike section ends.
Since I am not the least bit athletic I don't ride myself, but I do know of a bicyle tour company here called St. Croix Bike and Tours. I bet they would be glad to fill in all the blanks for you.

Thanks for the information and the link. I now have a good idea about bicycling possibilities on St Croix.
Still interested if there is a bicycle club on the island.

Peter, I don't know what a bicycle club is? Bike riding in the USVI is limted because of the terrain. Kids often ride bikes at home or at school yards... not much else along the lines of biking except for races: St. John has a race with running and bikes and swimming maybe... and St. Croix which you have the info for. What is a bicycle club?

A bicycle club is a group of people that ride together. Usually the club has several scheduled rides each week. Racing clubs often wear team uniforms partially paid for by their sponsors. The club I ride with often starts off with a group of 50 -70 riders on a nice weekend morning. Our normal route in the spring and summer is about fifty miles. Riding time a little over two hours.
In a racing club the pace is usually faster with the group riding in a single or double pace line. Club rides are a way to train for races. The pace is usually 19mph plus with sprints exceeding 30mph. In the US a racing club is sanctioned through the USCF or other federation and is expected to hold at least one race per year.
A recreational club would be more relaxed and more into sight seeing or touring.
I agree, that with the exception of St Croix, the VI aren't really sutiable for biking. The hills are to steep, many blind corners, narrow shoulders and to many drivers not used to driving on the left side of the road.
Hope that you learned something about bicycle club. Your comments on the VI are most informative.

Thank you Peter,
I now know what it is; however I am not sure if such an organization exist on St. Croix. And yes you are correct the islands are not the best suited for bike riding.
