Beware of break-in's on the east end of STX
there is a guy who used to work at a restaurant in the area who has a drug problem, he recently moved as the house he was living in had a fire. he is out of work with a lot of time on his hands and no money, just saying, lock up and watch out
I hope not. Hes a pretty bad drunk and has been battling sobriety for a while.
In Texas thieves use spray oven cleaner in the face to shut up and neutralize aggressive "guard" dogs. Hopefully that doesn't start happening here.
No, they use strychnine in the islands...
Apparently my dogs just laid there and let them steal what ever they wanted.

most dogs are just pets, true guardian breeds are a bit more of a responsibility; but if you buy one you will know what you are getting into.
I have three guardian breed dogs and don't worry about my house hold at all 😉

Here's a good list of what thieves look for. I saw a few ideas I hadn't thought of:

Tips from convicted burglars
1. Of course I look familiar. I was here just last week cleaning your carpets, painting your shutters, or delivering your new refrigerator..
2. Hey, thanks for letting me use the bathroom when I was working in your yard last week. While I was in there, I unlatched the back window to make my return a little easier.
3. Love those flowers. That tells me you have taste ... and taste means there are nice things inside. Those yard toys your kids leave out always make me wonder what type of gaming system they have.
4. Yes, I really do look for newspapers piled up on the driveway. And I might leave a pizza flyer in your front door to see how long it takes you to remove it.

I put all my dogs in their kennels when anyone is working in or on the house to keep them from becoming familiarized with anyone that has not worked for me for many yrs. and that I trust implicitly. They begin to bark when anyone pulls in the driveway or walks onto the property even if they know them, well. The dogs are always in the home or on the property as it is fenced and courtyard is gated. It also helps that I work out of the house and have no rhyme or reason to my schedule and comings and goings.
I had a friend staying with me for 10 days when she walked into my bedroom (she'd been here about a week , at that point so dogs knew and liked her well) to let me know she was ready to go out. I had fallen asleep waiting for her to get dressed to go out as having guests can be exhausting. My dogs were in the bedroom with me and the minute she started down the hallway to my room, they chased her back to the guest room. Good doggies!:D She was a bit freaked but I was pleased. I know that's not absolute security but in 10 yrs. in my location, never had an issue. (Knock on wood!)
If I did not have the dogs, I would get a security system.
Hey, at least in the VI we don't have to worry about mail and newspapers piling up in the driveway or mailboxes when we're away since there is no home delivery!
Cant beat this price....

It has to be purchased seperately. That's maybe why it's so cheap.
harddrives are dirt cheap now.. technology has come a long way.
It's still misleading to price it out that way. How much will a hard drive cost with enough capacity? You can't record without the hard drive. Correct?
FWIW it's very easy to take a cheap basic computer tower and a webcam using u-stream (free) and make your own video system. I had one in the states that monitored my living room and more importantly salt water aquarium. With the power outages here it be best on a back up. I used to peek in and check on my reef aquarium when I was on vacation to make sure it was ok. It saved my ass once when neighbor kids shut off my power. Called neighbors who flipped it back on and saved my 8k reef.
Who the hell shaves a cat? So strange!!

correct you cannot record with out one, but for about $40 you can have a 500 gig drive; or use one you already have (I have a 2000 (2TB) drive for backups that I got for about $90 that I could use for video recording with no issue, I also use it for back ups etc..)
do u have it on battery backup? When power goes out do you lose video while it reboots? Does it automatically turn back on?

All electronics in my house are on UPS/battery backups...I have my TV's on 1000VA...computers on 350VA...the cameras are also on a 1000VA and they have stayed on almost an hour after the power goes off...and yes it boots right back up when power comes back on.

Thanks LF.
Are the robbers in cars or on foot u think?
Hey guys, so sorry that happened to you. Regarding the cat....Gary just said, "That is the oddest thing I have ever heard. Too bad they didn't try it on OUR cat."
A few people on here know our cat. For those who do not, I assure you the burgler would have had a trail of blood from CV to the hospital.
If it had been YOUR cat the guy would have bled out long before making it to the hospital.
Although I have heard of people shaving their cats, I cannot fathom why a burglar would do so. Did he bring his own sheers? Or did he use a razor?
When my apartment in CV was robbed some years ago, they didn't shave my cat, but they did take a shit in my shower.
Who DOES that?
IT
The Shitty Bandit made several "deposits" I hear.
That's just wrong!!!!!!
Omg iris! GAG.
A real police department would have used that DNA evidence to their advantage. The perp is a real moron.
Our police don't do s ..t. Lol
But it's the truth

They saved my ass when we had an armed home invasion!
I know they did rotor. Most times they do their
Jobs. Not always
Obviously our police department could do much better but even in the states the burglary clearance rate is only around 15%. And while DNA testing is routinely done by most police departments for major crimes, burglary is usually considered to be a relatively minor crime and therefore does not typically justify the expense of DNA testing, particularly when the police department is grossly underfunded and understaffed.
