"Best" Veterinarian on STX
Yes, they need a Health Certificate to fly, but nobody checks for it in STX since you don't have to clear customs etc on arrival. The Vet meeting you at the airport to check the animals applies to several of the other Caribbean islands. In one island, as well as paying the Vet, I was charged duty on my dogs, the value of them based on an estimate by the Customs Officer. I was charged several hundred EC$, which I never received a receipt for, before they would let them leave the airport. And you think the USVI's are corrupt!
Juanita and Sabrina,
West asked a question about meeting the Vet at the airport, I have been flying to the US Virgin islands for over 45 years (15 years with a dog). A Health Certificate within 10 days of your stateside departure from your Vet is required by the Air Lines and by the US Virgin Island Govt. to date no one has ever asked me even to produce it.
Not the Air Line not the Govt. So I only answered the question regarding "meet a Vet at the Airport". However one should always have their Heath certificate with them when they travel with their pet. That 10 day period is only upon arrival, that same certificate is good up to the first expiration date of the required shots and for return travel of one year which ever happens first.
