Best Gym/Health Club STT
I'm relocating to STT later this year and am looking forward to all the outdoor activities, water sports, etc. to help keep in shape. However, I'm really into working out and am looking for suggestions about the best gyms on the island; for price, cleanliness, choice of equipment and programs, etc.
I've been to America's Paradise at Nisky - can anyone recommend anywhere else?
Thanks!!
Hi Jeff,
Welcome to the board and the island!
I hear ya regarding the gym at Nisky center -- I was completely grossed out by how filthy it was.
The health clubs here are a mixed bag and there is really no way to recommend a "best one" as really all depends on what you are looking for.
I belong to X-Treme Fitness at Market Square (near the Cost-U-Less -- a place you will probably get to know well once you move). I like this gym because it is very clean and it has a very friendly atmosphere. It is a small(ish) gym, with somewhat older, but well-maintained equipment. They also have a wide variety of classes and excellent instructors -- who make ALL of the classes fun but very challenging.
I would definitely recommend X-Treme fitness, but I think you will want to check out several gyms and see which one is right for you. A few more to check out would be the Jackson Complex Wellness Center at Antilles School and the fitness center at Marriott Frenchman's Reef. I am sure other posters will have additional recommendations for you as well.
Hope this helps a little!
🙂 Mell
Mell,
Thanks for the recommendations - I'll check them out next time I'm back.
With regard to the Gym at Nisky, I had a good work out and didn't have a problem with the place, I was just looking for other clubs before I committed to a membership.
Thanks again. This forum is very helpful.
Cheers,
Jeff
I love the Jackson Wellness Center over at Antilles: http://www.antilles.vi/athletics/jackson/jackson_index.htm
I used to belong to the Nisky gym but that place is really dirty, equip. is always broken, the place is a meat market and I had a serious problem with one of the trainers (he walked in on me and my 12 year old daughter ---unannounced--- while we were undressing in the changing room!) I will never go back there, even though I really like the owners.
Since I don't work out very often, I like the Jackson Center because you can get 10 passes for $50, which is only $5 a visit. The place is immaculate and you can actually feel the air conditioning while you work out. The only downside is the location and traffic through Havensight.
