What is the best community to live in? In terms of being safe and upscale housing?

David: I think you should come look for yourself...I just read Ric's note about St Croix ("What we did right...") and enjoyed his line about renting and being glad they didn't buy where the realtor was pushing them. Peterborg may or may not fit your requirements. St Thomas is not like the states where there are suburbs with similar houses side by side. There are lovely neighborhoods with 1/2 finished houses and pit bulls around. You have to find an area that you like...

I am seriously considering moving back (after 21 yrs). I was a kid when we lived there...one of our homes was in Northstar Village...I tried to fidn it on a recent visit, but the palce had dramatically changed. That homes was my favorite...so high up....huge gallery......lots of fauna around.....view of Megans......but it looked like crap when I came back and tried to find our home....I couldn't even find the home we lived in (or didn't recognize it)...

It Northstar a good place to live now? I don't need Peterborg.....probably couldn't afford it.....would want something to buy/rent for $1300-$1600 month. Would bring one child...and she would probably attend Antilles school.....

I have a girlfriend who might want to move down with me.....has 1 son....is a professional massage therapist...in that case we would get a bigger home bcus we would need 4 bedrooms...and could afford up to $2500 month. Guess we cold do Peterborg then....but not necesary....maybe we could get MORE someplace else....

ideas...

Hello Sheila,

Rent for apartments on St. Croix are going to differ depending on whether its part of a house, a condo, a stand alone home... In the cost of living section of this web site there are approximate cost to give a rough idea. Your best bet is to pick up the local paper and look at the classifieds, also drive around as many landlords put apartment for rent signs outside there driveways. What specific questions did you have? There are a few people on the board that have recently moved to St. Croix or that are long time residents that likely could give you some advice or suggestions.
