coming for a PMV in feb. and was wondering what the best/nicest place to live that is semi close to the hospital on STT and is reasonably priced? my wife and i are mid twenties, both in the medical profession. would like to be close to where everything is happening yet safe and fairly close to the beach.....is there such a place?! if not just tell me what you think the best area of the island is, where would you live if you had a chance to move right now and why? thanks in advance.

Frenchmans bay seems to cover those attributes (except maybe price).
You`ll need a car as anything within walking distance of the Hospital isn`t safe/best/nicest & close to a beach.

Will you have a car? Red Hook is my favorite area of St. Thomas, but it's on the very eastern end of the island, and the hospital is in Charlotte Amalie, (mid-west part of the island)

There are definitely areas near the hospital that are as safe. Several really nice areas, actually. There are a couple of Realtors on this board in St. Thomas. I imagine one, or more, will contact you. The thing is having a car. If you don't, then you are limited, and I would suggest Red Hook even more so because there is reliable public transportation to the hospital.

Good luck to you.

There are some very convenient rentals available on Raphune Hill quite often - it is close to the hospital - easy for public or ride sharing transportation - some great views, generally safe and neighborly with mostly private homes and privacy.

ajmack: Hospital folk live all over the island. When you come on your PMV, look around and see what interests you. You may want to be near your favorite beach, hangout, gym, grocery... I second the need for a car, especially if you work weird shifts.

Foirst, the fact that you are doing a PMV is a great thing. Where to live depends on several things. Do you want a place with views or do you want to be near a beach? Do you want to live in a more isolated place like the north side? Will you have a car? If not then you will need to live close to the hospital or on the the safari run. How much do you want to pay. (Don't say you want to pay as little as possible. You need to establish a budget and stick to it. If you have a pet that will limit were you can stay. What do you like to do off hours? The island is small but travel can be difficult.

Chech this board for housing starting in January. Check the island reader for cars and housing.

Best of luck!

yes i will either bring a car or purchase one upon arrival to the island. id like to spend as close to $1000 or below as possible for rent, its just my wife and myself...my in-laws will be taking car of our dog while we are away. i think we would like to be as close to the beach as possible. I dont mind driving a little bit to work, so long as its not gonna be killer stressful traffic everyday that could possibly make me late. thanks for all the input guys.

i love Mandahl area. Been in this place for almost 5 years. Quiet, not more than 20 minutes from anything. Must have car. Good, animal loving neighbors. Great views.

Where`s Trade to back me up on the Frenchmans Bay area?
I believe that is where she is from.

The trip is 1/4 that it would be from the east end(to the hospital), & 1/3 the trip from Mandahl (I agree, nice place/views, but some "funky areas too there).
