BBVI New Speed

Gaming with players stateside maybe an issue. The fact that is is 1,100 miles to Miami adds approximately 60 ms to your ping time. Not being a gamer I can't tell you for sure what this will do to your gaming experience.

I will hope for the best but assume the worse. Thanks for all the info.

in alaska I never had better than 110ms latency (thats .1 second) and it worked FINE! so at 80ms (or so) to FL... that.s .08 seconds

In my experiences with online gaming here in the VI, anything sub-150ms (ping to stateside server) usually works just fine for FPS (COD, Halo, Battlefield, etc.).

Northside of STT, seeing 25/20 to STX, 15/15 to MIA, 5/5 to Seattle. Pings as low as 66ms to MIA, 120ms to Seattle.

I'm in downtown STT and newly signed-up with BBVI. This is a typical speed test result, so far. Definitely better than either Innovative or Choice.

Seeing other people's results in this thread with15-30Mbps, however, has me wondering if that is possible for my location? And if it isn't now, will it be anytime soon? (My radio is pointed towards the Frenchtown tower)

You are lucky....Frenchtown is the first STT site for upgrades to our "super fast new stuff" we are starting to roll out.

So what speeds are we talking about for the "super fast new stuff". IS STX upgrading already?

Is there a way to tell what speeds you may get at your current residence if you upgraded without actually upgrading?

Beeski, I know I should call customer service but.... I am out East on STX above the Reef Condos and ever since the snowbirds started back things have slowed down quite a bit. What do you think?

Yea I REALLY don't want to switch from Choice but last month has been really annoying. Dropping signal several times a day. I still think $99 is too much for BBVI. Choice may not be the absolute best but for $35 gonna have to deal I guess.

BBVI Residential service starts at $49.95/month for 2Mbps down / 768k up (for now....faster speeds next year)

AandA2VI, you were complaining about Choice's performance, and our price.
I corrected you regarding our price.
If you are satisfied with Choice, by all means, stay with them.
All I know is BBVI is home to hundreds of former Choice customers.

I guess I need to call BBVI as my speed is only 2.58 download and 1.51 upload for $99.95 per mo.
Sometimes it's much higher, sometimes it's not but I don't think I would ever go back to Choice after my experience with their service the last yr. I was with them. I was loathe to switch since it meant changing my e-mail address that I'd had forever but they gave me absolutely NO choice!

This island has more bandwidth than New York City

BBVI, Innovative, Choice... ALL of them are vastly over charging, IMO; but the market will bear what it bears... I give BBVI 99$ a month for the small amount of bandwidth they sell.

hopefully the new fiber ring will cause prices to get a bit more reasonable for an island that has more bandwidth percapita than anywhere in the world.

I would gladly pay 99$ a month for 50mb down 10mb up, given the circumstances.

Liquid, that is what BBVI is working towards in 2014.

I think $99 is a bit steep... I guess IF I was getting those high end numbers consistently then maybe I would switch but this thread and others many are paying $99 and not getting good speeds.

If it ever comes down to a more manageable rate, say $50 for that package then Id definatly try it out.

Yesterday, this happened:

And this:

Don't know if this is the "super fast new stuff" Beeski mentioned above, but...not too shabby! (Downtown STT, radio aimed at Frenchtown tower, btw)

I pay $199/month for way less that half of the above speeds at my business on STX

Rude, not yet....soon come.
Boyd, biz pricing is different than residential pricing. Higher priority on service calls is reason #1.
