How come the salary for a bartender and waiter is very low. I know it's mostly tips but McDonalds would pay more then this. With tips shouldn't a bartender be able to make more then the listed $6.30 hour? Any idea what a bartender could make a night working at a decent bar/restaurant? Is the wage estimate on this site a little off perhaps?

I'm sure they make more than that. If you were serving drinks at a place like Duffy's, I've got to imagine your pockets would be full of tips at the end of the night. And if you have experience and get a waitering job somewhere nice like Craig and Sally's or Old Stone Farmhouse, you will bring in some big tips based on the cost of the food alone.

JB, the prices listed in wages is what was provided by Bureau of Statistics (gov't bureau).... I would add a note: the wages given for a bartender or waiter or anyone receiving tips will be a bit off - because I am quite certain folks do not report all their tips!!! So yes if you are working at a happening spot you will make more.
