Banks
I was just wondering what banks are available on St Thomas and what your opinions are of them. I just need the basic services to start with, but would like to be able to check my accounts online if possible and have handy access to ATMs.
Thanks!
Scotiabank - (340) 774-0037
First Bank - (340) 775-7777
Banco Popular - (340) 693-2777
Opinions - not one is better than the next, I believe all of them have ATM access and I know that at least Scotia is on-line as long as you have a PC and not a MAC.
Thanks for the numbers. And by the way, they'll have to pry my mac out of my cold dead hands! ;-p
Hi Kate,
I use FirstBank and am very happy with their services. They do offer online banking, but it's more limited than what I was uised to at Bank of America when I lived in DC. Through e-FirstBank, you can check your balances, review transactions, and instantly transfer money back and forth between your FirstBank accounts. However, USVI residents cannot use the online bill paying services yet (they are currently set up for residents of Puerto Rico only). Getting signed up for online banking is a bit harder than it needs to be as you must wait to receive your temporary password by snail mail once you register online (the mail here can be exceedingly SLOW). They offer good tech support by phone for the site, too.
FirstBank also offers many of those same services by phone. You can check your balances and recent transactions -- and I'm pretty sure you can also move money between accounts -- simply by dialing up their telebanking number and entering your account number, social security number, birthdate, etc. that are needed to verify you as the account holder.
Hope that helps!
HC
All three have online services. I believe only Banco Popular is set up for bill paying as of now.

Bank of St Croix is good if you are on STX. They just launched internet banking last month. Haven't tried their on line bill paying.
They do not have ATM/ Debit cards.
