Banks on STX
Any advice on which bank to use in STX? I have heard it is difficult to open an account without passport..any truth in this? I have looked at websites and am just wondering about Scotia Bank and First Bank. Looks like First Bank is the way to go..just wondering of the ease of opening an account quickly. Thanks!!!
Bank of ST Croix is a good bank, Photo ID and Social Security Card. Everybody wants to see a social security card.
That would be a Govt issued ID like a Drivers license. Things could have changed because of the new Homeland Security Laws. Give them a call just to make sure.

Thanks for the info. We are coming down in the next 10 days for a 3 day stay and would like to open an account then. So just show our US drivers license and social security card and we are set? Thanks!
Also, you need to have a physical address. A post office box is not enough.
I'd recommend keeping your own bank, especially if you have a good history with your bank and they work with you. Just a thought I'd throw out their. I have never regretted keeping mine the five years we've been here, it is a much better bank then any of the ones down here. Customer service and accuracy are never the best here on stx
At First Bank we did NOT need a local address. We used our address in the states. This was two years ago.
Thanks so much! That was my concern-having only an address in the states right now. I am going to give them a call tomorrow.
I'm pretty sure you still need a physical address, didn't say local. Assume your stateside address was not a P.O. box?
We have had accounts at Scotia and First Bank for years. I hear people complain about mistakes all the time, but we've only had one problem in 12 years, and it was pretty much a non-event. We cashed a check at Scotia in St. Martin. The St. Martin bank called our STT bank to verify the funds. STT, at that moment, deducted the money, and then when the actual physical check showed up, they deducted it again. Called them when we got the statement. They fixed it immediately.
