Does anyone know of any really good pastry shops on STT and if so, where, exactly?

By pastry shops I mean the sale of great cakes, fruit tarts, homemade gelatos, sorgets, etc. -- not breads. I figure that with all the great fruits available there should be a large variety of local ice-creams and fruit tarts, at least, available! I will be down later in August and want to check them out.

I know that people always say they don't eat "that stuff" but surely in your travels around the island some places must have tweaked those saliva glands........................

Hello Angela,

Franks Bakery in Subbase (close to Nisky Center) comes to mind... but they don't carry all the things you named.

Paris also comes to mind.... ahhhhh the Pastry Shops there!!!

SORGETS??????? nOPE We dOn't haVe anY of ThAt stuff!

Bakeries here are below par - definately a must need for the island - oh well, perhaps someday???? I doubt it.

We don't even have the kind of breads available in the states........and oh yes, chime in my friends I know, do I want everything like in the states, no, but bread????? Cookies? Can't get nothing good.............as if I needed cookies and cakes.

Closest I'd come to a recommendation is the daily stuff at the Marina Market Deli, in Red Hook, but don't EVER waste money on their dry dry cheescake!

Paul,
Shame on you - get in that island car of yours and go to Franks or to the little bake shop on back street (can't remember the name)! They have great breads, cakes, tarts, etc. But sadly no gelatos I can recall.
