Bags packed
Having survived 3 wars and 2 terrorist bombings, I'm ready to hang up my flak jacket. This Saturday I start my 2-day journey to St Croix from the Caucasus (the place, not the race) for my retirement.
I want to thank all those in this forum who have provided so much useful information that helped me to make my decision. That, and my PMV in February, confirmed my instinct that this was the time and VI is the place.
Everything I own in the world is now in 3 bags to be checked on the Austrian Airlines flight, one carry-on, and one laptop. I'm ready to go!
Thanks, everyone, for all your help!
Edward
HI Edward,
good for you.I am glad you chose the Virgin Islands and I wish you all the luck.
I am in the process of moving there myself, Oct 5th and counting the days. Although
I will be living on St Thomas. Also like you I am bringing my whole life in three suitcases.
Wish you well, safe travels and enjoy your new life.
Christina...
Good luck, Edward!
Good morning/evening Edward:
I am sure you are excited as you wait for your departure on Saturday to STX.
Have a safe journey, hope stewardess(es) will be extra nice to you,
and your 3 bags will make it to STX safe and sound and on time schedule on all your flights/connections!
Hope everything will go smoothly for you and welcome to VI.

Safe travels, Edward! We're looking forward to hearing about your experiences after you've settled in. 🙂
Edward: All the best. Hope you have a pleasant flight and a great retirement.
Have a safe trip and a wonderful retirement!
I fly out of Tbilisi tonight at 01:00 to Vienna, then to JFK, San Juan, and STX. But...
The President of Georgia (see my avatar) does not want me to retire. He has asked me to start a new, modern university in Batumi, on the Black Sea Coast http://www.worldisround.com/articles/342438/
A dream deferred 🙁
But an opportunity to serve 🙂
So are you not going to St. Croix???
Hello Edward
Are you coming to St. Croix then leaving to start the university?

I spent three glorious weeks in St. Croix. Got my Basic and Advanced Open Water Diver Certifications with Jon at SCUBA, got my VI driving license in one hour (still waiting after three months for my Minnesota renewal), and did all the other things needed to make the move, once my work is completed in Europe.
Jeannette, that's a great idea. For now, I am starting a new university in Batumi, on the Black Sea Coast, under the auspices of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara. I hadn't considered doing one in VI.
I helped establish The University of Georgia 5 years ago in Tbilisi. We started with 25 MA students in American Studies and now have over 2,000 in bachelors, masters, and doctoral programs.
Is there a sense that there could be a need for a new, private college in STX? Or possibly a program to help students prepare for SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, or other tests? Or after-school college prep programs?
Dont forget STT, we could absolutely use another university option here! My daughter is a nursing student at UVI and is not pleased at all. Of course I understand that you can get a great education there, she claims it is highly unorganized and "stupid" (but then again she is a teenager! ) God help me!

Don't worry Cheryl you will make it. I had 5 teenagers at the same time. I often quoted Bill Cosby when he said that all teenagers are brain damaged. After they get a few life experiences under their belts or have a child of their own they can identify with you a bit more.;)
