Bad Customer Service STX
Hey everyone,
Yesterday I called Dept of Finance to inquire about retrieving a copy of my 2011 W2 forms. I was so shocked by the disrespect I received. It really made me angry. The lady, Ms. Milligan (if that was even her real name), told me "You need to hurry up because I am answering the phones for somebody today and I have other things to do". I couldn't believe it. Customer service, or the lack of, on STX needs to be addressed. What sense is it that I praise my islands while living in the states but can't even be respected when talking to "one of my own"? We have got to do better. 🙁
I made a vlog about it, if you'd like to see it.
Have any of you ever received bad customer service in the VI? Yes, I know you have. Please share your experience.
of course, but we also receive good and great customer service. they have training here for customer service. i even went.
the bad/horrible service tends to stand out more than the good/great customer service.
btw, it should not matter if you "are one of her own" good customer service should be for all and not just those who are her own
It's that way everywhere. Here in Vermont one of the friendliest states to live in we have bad customer service as well.

good customer service should be a norm. Employees are representing businesses not themselves. Bad attitudes and disrespect should be left at the door when you clock in.
I stated her being one of my own because people always ask me about the USVI & I always talk about the good rather than the bad but the ONE time I interact with someone I don't know from the VI, I receive this nonsense. Others have said, they expect it because it's the way VI people act but NO it's not, & it shouldn't be.

I receive bad customer service once in a while up here as well but I was born & raised in the VI and bad customer service is normal there.
you are right, it seems to be the norm and it should not be
I certainly did not get that impression of the natives while I was there. Everyone I spoke with was polite and friendly, even when it seemed they did not want to be. They still gave a smile and were help full.
Bad customer service is everywhere. I have worked in the service industry for 30 years and I am the first to recognize bad service.I try to be my best at all times.
That being said, everyone has a bad day now and then. I tend to let it "roll off" unless is becomes a repeating problem. Just know that you were probably having a better day than her. It's possible that due to budget restraints, she has to do 3 peaople's jobs, and I agree, that's no excuse.:-)
You mean a government employee was disrespectful? Nevvvver.
The term I like to use is "unwarranted self importance".
Just yesterday, called Schneider hospital and asked to be connected to someone. Was hung up on twice, given the wrong extension 3x, and when I was connected, there was just silence... ie "good afternoon, can you connect me to the department of"......."music starts playing, person gone".
Also got hung up on by the innovative robot after holding for 15 minutes.
Dont get me started on the bartenders...
VIBIR - don't get me started.
I've got a stamped form and cancelled check as proof of a particular weekly in-person tax payment from back in 2010.
Started receiving non-payment penalty notices in 2011. On separate occasions I've provided 5 copies as proof, made 7 in-person visits, endless phone calls and some certified mail, discussed it with the Director twice. Assured it was resolved. Heck even the Governor's office was involved.
Yet last week I just received two more related penalty notices in the mail.
I'm just going to start framing them. Something to hang on the padded walls. 😎
I deal with several gov't agencies, on the whole I'd give a grade of C.
In the small coastal town of Maine where I once lived two women do just about everything. On Oahu in the public empoles were super nice
Now the property book officer in the VI is a different story. We transfer military equipment and it can take up to a year to get status back. And if you call the warrant officer bites your head off. Too bad I'm a lowly sgt or I might snap.

Be that as it may, having a bad day doesn't make it okay for an employee to tell a customer/client "You need to hurry up....I have other things to do". There's no excuse for that. I wasn't being rude. If I didn't need her assistance I wouldn't be "bothering" her by calling DoF to inquire about my W2s.

It's as if you HAVE to know somebody to be able to get things done. That means I have to keep "friendships" with people I may or may not like just in case I need something done within a government agency. <--- sounds ridiculous? Because it is.
Too many times people are hired because of who they know, not what they know. Even if that's the case, make sure the friend who you hired is capable of doing the job right.

LOL Their famous excuse is "It's already set up in the system and there's no way we can change it" :S
The other day at the STX BMV, a woman behind one of the service windows shouted "Good Morning Sir" at a confused newbie male customer three times in a row before giving up hope of hearing "Good Morning" back from him. Bless her heart, she was trying so hard to make him be polite.
Later on, another customer with a sob story berated the woman by saying, "Look at me instead of just blinking your eyes!"
The woman's service was still good in spite of those hiccups.
heard the acting or new police chief the other day on radio talking about some forms you can get and fill out complaint and comment forms i think. was that just for the police or all goverment depts?
i find the govt employess rude until you get to know them on a personal level.
through the years i have worked alot at the govt house and ltd gov office and once you get to know the employees they can be a bit stand offish.
the worst are the employees at dmv. either they hate their job or know a complaint wont effect their positions.
if bad service then we should complain. we pay their salary and should not be treated like second class citizens. they work for us.
I suppose my years in the Army has numbed me to this isuue.
I have gotten bad customer service in the VI a lot more that any where else. But when nepotism runs rampant, this is the type of thing that happens. It has gone on this way for soooooo long that it's become the fashion and everyone excepts it.
So, a few months back I paid my WAPA bill online and on time. It was due the first and I paid it the first, before 3 PM. I printed out my receipt which said I paid it on the 1st when it was due.
The next month I get a late fee, I called WAPA, the lady that I spoke to was very nice but said I needed to speak to the manager. I left a voice mail since he wasn't there. He never called me back. I called a couple days later and finally got to speak to the manager. I told him I paid my bill on time but have a late charge. He then said reluctantly I will take it off the bill. The next month I still had a late payment on my bill. I called the manager again left him a voice mail, he never called me back. A couple of days went by so I called him again, I got thru to him. I told him that I still have the late charge on my bill. He said very rudely to me, Maam it takes time for us to take the late charge off, then hung up on me. Still to this day I have a late charge on my bill that I refuse to pay. This was back in November.
I guess I'll just keep waiting for him to decide to delete the late charge or not. I thought it would be as simple as pushing a button. I guess not.
The manager needs better customer service skills.
I always make sure to say Good Morning, Good Afternoon or Good night anytime I speak to anyone. Sometimes it just doesn't matter.
I have had good and bad service here.
Home depot employees are usually very nice, but some of them are soooooo slow and don't know what they are doing. They need more trainging there.
Bad customer service also happens in the states. It's not just a St. Croix thing. I hope you also make a vlog for your stateside bad customer experiences.
I'm just saying.

When I first moved to the states, people would not respond when I entered a room and said Good Morning. I was offended at 1st but then realized that was the norm. My coworkers would not greet me with good mornings but instead said hey. I had to correct them and now they say their good mornings.

I never said it was a Cruz thing. I have never been disrespected in the states as much as I am on STX. When I do run into any bad experiences (which are few), I report it to the corporate office and it is dealt with in a timely manner.

That is so true. The phrase "it's not what you know but who you know" is definitely a theme in the VI. Many people have lost out on the opportunity to become employed because a friend of a friend was hired instead. What's sad is that most of these friends don't even have the skills required for the job.
