Back from St. Thomas 🙁

My wife and I just got back(last night) from a quick 5 day (5 days to short) vacation/pre-move visit in St. Thomas. We had been to St. Thomas before but only on a cruise ship.

ACCOMODATIONS
We stayed in a Condo near Sapphire Beach which we though was very nice..nothing spectacular but we just used the hotel as a place to sleep and eat. The rates were pretty cheap and it was clean.

THE ISLAND
Once our flight from NY landed we rented a car, let me tell you that driving was very...exciting to say the least. Getting used to driving on the left took a day or two and the roads are hilly..but the views that you get make it worth it all. We went to Megans Bay and were amazed by the scenery. We also went to Sapphire Beach a few times which is very nice. We went to coki beach and we a little dissapointed, it is a lot noisier and a bit more polluted than the other beaches.

There are some run-down parts of the island, maybe its because we have been to Jamaica many times and China once but St Thomas seemed to be a generally wealthy island.

CRIME
while we were on the island, we read and heard some stories about a drive-by shooting at a church and a murder. Thought we heard this information, we felt very safe on the island, part of this may be due to the fact that we realized that as in many places that I have lived in (NYC, even my home town Mt Kisco, NY) there are places(housing projects, and other run down areas) that many crimes take place in, and you know not to go to those places. As long as you do that, you should be fine. The only reason I even adressed this topic was because it seems to be a concern for many potential movers.

PEOPLE
While at touristy places, we met quite a few people that thought the locals were very rude. I realised that a lot (not all) of the people that found rudeness, were people that werent very nice themselves, these people seemed to have a certain fast-pace, hurry-up attitude that they may not have realized. We found the people to be very nice once you gave them the respect they deserved.

PRE MOVE
We did look at some potential houses, and we ruled out some because they were not in the best area. We are down to a few and we will try to make the desicion in the next month or two. Now that we are older (45,46) we have accumulated the money to try to start our own business and we are going to look into that.

We had a great time and we have a positive pre move experience!
Sorry about any grammar errors, I am rushing to watch the debates!
Best,
Peter

Hello Peter,

Thanks for the update!

Did you stay at Crystal Cove? There is someone on the travel board planning to stay there and was asking for reviews from folks that have recently stayed there, perhaps if that is where you stayed you could give a little review for them

All the best with your plans!!
