Back from St. Croix
I just got back from a pre move visit in St. Croix. I was able to secure a job and talk to many people who live there. I found it hard, I would say impossible, to be able to find a place to live until one moves there for good. I talked to quite a few people who offered advice on what to do about moving. I am moving by myself in August. I had a potential roommate a few months ago but she bailed on me. If anyone is/needs a roommate email me. Rent is so much cheaper when there is more people involved.
Hello Ryann,
What did you think of St. Croix, the job search, residents?
Glad to hear you secured a job and were able to meet people.

St. Croix was awesome and the people were even better. Though the weather wasn't the greatest this past week, we still managed to have tons of fun. The locals were so nice and friendly and I swear the rum was cheaper than the water.
I was visiting some condos to see about renting when all of the sudden the sky opened up. I was walking to the bus stop getting soaked, because I am a little too young to rent a car, when all of the sudden somebody asked if I needed a ride. They gave me a ride into town and even offered to help me out if I couldn't find a place. Then on the way to the airport, the taxi driver offered me a place behind her house. Don't really see that in the States.
The job search was fairly easy. I had called them up a few months ago for an internship and just was able to set it in stone when I visited them. The worst part was not having a car. At first I wasn't going to budget a car in the move, but I might have to because it is a real pain not to have one. The island is so much better with a car.
Hi Ryann,
I am just recently researching moving to the VI and your post about how friendly the people are and how nice it is there from your visit has increased my curiosity even more. I just had a question for you. I myself dont have a car either and was wondering about your opinion on the bus system and taxis, if you dont mind me asking. It sucks here in the states not having a car and i am sure its no different there but is it doable with out one there?
Thanks,
Tim
Hey Ryann,
Congrats on a successful premove visit -- it's very cool that both you and OhioGuy were able to secure employment on your trips. These kind of success stories ought to make a big impression on those who are considering such a move.
I share your opinion of how friendly everyone is there. I am so eager to get back to STX and interact with as many people as possible -- they are the best cure for the "everybody's so damn self important ion DC" blues.
What areas did you get to see while you were there, and what did you think of them? Did any one part of the island picque your interest?
Looking forward to seeing you down there -- we move Saturday and are positively giddy about it. Will keep everyone posted as I'm able.

Hello Ryann,
Thanks for the review. Getting around St. Croix without a car is a pain; its a big island and public transporation is not adequate. Definately limits where you can live by not having a car as well.
All the best with you move!!
