Attention all you Drycleaning Professionals Out There
STT needs a competent dry-cleaning establishment. So for all you dry-cleaning professionals out there, please come to the islands. All you would really need to do to be successful on this island is to:
A) Return all garments that were dropped off to you, even if they are not all that clean, or even pressed. A little cleaner and a little less wrinkled will be fine, thank you.
B) Get people's clothing to them within a reasonable period of time. And don't worry we won't hold you to any impossibly high standards such as getting our order to us on the very day that you promised it or anything like that. After all, we will be just overjoyed to be reunited with our clothing anyhow.
C) Clean the clothing the way in which the customer requests. I have been to three cleaners now and have been told that if the tag on my garment says to launder, then the garment will be laundered, even if I request that it be dry-cleaned. Apparently there is nothing that can be done to change this.
I have been on this island just a little over 5 weeks and have already lost two pieces of clothing at two different establishments. One I have been reimbursed for, and the other supposedly never existed according to the cleaner's employees.
A third garment is basically ruined because it was a dry clean only piece that (unbeknownst to me) didn't have a cleaning instruction tag on it, so it got laundered even though I specifically requested that it be dry cleaned. I guess the default is launder. So, if there is no tag, the garment will be laundered. I learned this the hard way.
ARRRGHHHH!
I use the nice lady in the Tutu Park Mall and she does what I tell her, although she is more expensive than the idiots on the waterfron near the holiday inn, but at least I get my clothes back on time and perfectly done. Been going there for 2-3 years now NEVER a problem. She is a small shop so things dont get lost. I think an extra few bucks is worth it rather than lose your clothes.
Hi Local,
Really???? Do tell me the name. Is it located inside the Laundromat at Tutu -- La Providence, or something like that? Does she do her own work onsite?
You're a godsend if you finally hook me up with someone who will get the job done to some minimum acceptable standard, if not actually (hope against hope) done well!
The idiots by the Waterfront that you refer to, Presto cleaners (might as well warn the uninitiated), was the third cleaners I tried. I didn't think it could get any worse until I went there; it was so unbelievably bad that it was actually farcical.
Well so far, my worst problem on the islands has been with dry-cleaners, and if that is my worst problem, life is pretty good I must say 🙂 ;)!
Thanks again :),
Mell
Yes the lady by the laundromat and next to the lingerie store. I believe she does all her own stuff there. I really don't know, I just assume she does because its HOT in there.
But I can say I've never had a problem, and she is really very sweet if you strike up a conversation with her. I've gotten to know her kind of and she is sweet if you put forth some effort.
I hope that helps, but be prepared for a bit more money. But I rarely have to wait and she has NEVER lost anything of mine.
Mell: A good solution is to get rid of anything that needs extensive care, like items that require dry cleaning. Cotton, linen and rayon are pretty easy! 😉
Hey Mell, I second East Ender's suggestion. I've always wondered what really happens to island dry cleaning chemicals after they've been used. Linen wrinkles, rayon shrinks, I love cotton.
Would also lke to add my two cents for the lovely lady at the drycleaning section of La Providence laundromat. She also does great repairs and may even do alterations but I haven't got around to that yet.
I have next to nothing dry-cleaned but for several years now I've taken a big bag of laundry to the laundromat section of La Providence every week. Unable to take the time to do the load myself, I drop it off and pick it up the next day. Never had a problem, nothing has ever been lost and the laundry is beautifully folded - not to mention very clean and sweet-smelling.
They're in every way far superior to two other laundromats I tried prior to finding them...
Thanks for the feedback STT :)! It is nice to know where to go for laundry services as well.
Will get back to T & T very soon for some more of your excellent food 🙂 🙂 :)!!! Your clam chowder is wonderful and very unique!!!
Hi Local and STT,
I tried both places you recommended this week for laundry and dry-cleaning. Both places did an OUTSTANDING job.
I am very pleased, problem solved -- Thank You 🙂 🙂 🙂 !
I gave up on the dry cleaners. I live on STJ anyway, so I only have one option and I can't bring myself to pay $5 to dry clean a button down shirt.
I have been using dryel and it's been nothing short of a miracle.
I can throw 4-5 shirts in the bag and run it for 30 minutes in a standard dryer and bingo! dry cleaned shirts!
Yes, I have to iron them myself, but if you hang them right away and hit em with Downy Wrinkle Release then you are 90% there w/o any ironing at all.
