AT&T tower still down in STX?
after the earthquake in the states, there was no cell service either. it is what it is. thats what happens. what could their plan have been to have it up and running in hours?
i actually think they did a pretty good job
Bring your self, phone, & computer out to F'sted, ATT has been fine for hours now.
Polly's has free wireless & offers a veggie menu. Turtle's has free wireless & some awesome sandwiches. You can take a sweet water shower at the Pool, just don't do it naked!
At&T still down over by Divi..I have to drive to cheeseburgers for freaking service. What is the hold up? Going on 4 days now...
Its will be 3 days this evening. And it is getting better. We had service when we drove through Csted last evening. But still not at the house.
*-) I guess WAPA isn't as bad after all.
Maybe AT&T should be sold. 😎
TSAguy9: The Divi area doesn't have great AT&T reception even on a good day. If you're going to be there for a while, you might want to think about investing in a network extender like my husband's co-pilot did at Villa Madeleine. Good luck!
Anyone have any idea of when AT&T might return to STJ?
Beachguy, how's your ATT today? My phone wasn't working well prior to the storm so now I'm not sure if it's me or the whole network.
Hi LitoVI, Still no AT&T. I have heard it is very spotty in Cruz Bay. I was on Maria Bluff yesterday and managed to get a signal long enough to retrieve a voice mail. Up here in Gifft Hill...nothing. It's not you.
I stayed a week at Divi back in November, and had almost no reception there ever.
Rosie Montalvo, marketing manager of AT&T Puerto Rico, said AT&T is focused on repairs on St. Croix, where the storm hit the territory hardest.
"We know that St. Croix suffered a little bit more," she said. "Today our additional crew arrived on St. Croix. One of the things that they did come back to tell us was that things had hit a turn for the worse because of heavy rains and wind."
Montalvo said power outages also hindered repair efforts by the additional six workers flown in.
She estimated that 80 percent of AT&T customers on St. Thomas and St. John had regular wireless service levels Tuesday.
"St. Thomas is almost reestablished to full capacity," Montalvo said.
Innovative spokesman James Oliver said its service remained functional for the duration of the storm, but in a press release he advised customers to wait to report poor service until after power was restored.
Oliver said Innovative had enough local technicians to deal with problems with service.
"It's like in the military and you have troops on the ground," Oliver said. "All of our sites are working and they kept tripping; it was a WAPA problem, so we put generators out."
a question. Could I get my AT&T calls transferred to my Skype number through my wireless router?

when all else fails blame WAPA.....smh
My phone service came back on tonight in the Catharine's Rest area. Only 1 bar but that's about what it's always been. Had service in the Gallows bay area.
TSAGuy, I have to ask...are you here because you HAVE to be or because you CHOSE to be?? If you were "placed" here for a certain period of time because of your job, your impatience may be a bit more justified. If you "CHOSE" to be here...well...
I have been here 4 years; my husband and I have chosen to be here. There have been no major storms since we have lived here, however, upon our arrival on this island (STT-June 2007), in far West End Botany Bay (alot of people from here have never been out to that part of the island...EVER!), we had no power for 3 days (no particular reason)...we had dial up Internet ONLY (not by choice, just the only thing available), and NO cell phone service until we got into Fortuna. Our landline worked unless it rained. All of this new to us, coming from a very cosmopolitan area. I am not sure where you are from and what you are used to but in defense of this island's infrastructure (on some small level)...I am from NC (my husband is from Florida)...coastal areas of each of our home States are hit often with hurricanes/tropical storms. In 1996, Hurricane Fran kept us off our home island for 10 days, due to the massive flooding. I now live on STT...on a clear day, I can see Hans Lollick, and down island to the beautiful BVI's. however, even on that lovely, clear day, the cell phone coverage and Internet service at my house is iffy. My point...I am on an island that was not hit as badly as yours (STX) during Irene..:if you are THIS impatient after ONE day of having service out, well, it's going to be a tough stint for you here on island. Good luck with that!
Oh, btw; there is another system you need to monitor that might mess up your cell service for a day or two coming our way.:.and it's not even September yet:..
Do any Sprint subscribers in STT have service?
I couldn't find service anywhere between town & Tutu today. In the Daily News today, their spokesperson had NO info as to cause of the outage, repair timeframe or number of subscribers affected; said that their technicians couldn't even get to the affected equipment locations due to continuous rains and muddy approaches. Listening to them you'd think we had just experienced a storm on the scale of a Hugo or Marilyn.
I've been a Sprint subscriber for many years & have been through REAL hurricanes while subscribing to their service & have never experienced such a prolonged, widespread outage. Service was usually restored within 48 hours, if lost at all.
I don't know if their equipment sites weren't inspected in preparation for this year's hurricane season, but I see no reason for such a moderate storm to deal a knockout blow to their system.
still no AT& T service - STT - Northside
Had about an hour UP today - otherwise, no calls and no messages ...
This still intermittent and often non-existent service is pretty sad, especially considering Irene wasn't that big a storm.
Their "mea culpa" in the VIDAILY was that the roads to their towers were "muddy."
Gee, muddy roads on a tropical island, who woulda thunkit?
Too bad we don't have a government that would take these bozos to task for their shoddy performance in the face of predictable circumstances.
The "phone booth" for AT&T cell connection at OFF THE WALL came back yesterday.(tu)

Love it!

Sprint service back up in downtown STT about mid-day today.
AT&T and Sprint are both back on STJ.
