ATM Fees...FIRST BANK goes for the gold!!! MINE!!!!
ATM fees charged by banks for NON CUSTOMERS:
Banco Popular = $2.50 per transaction
Bank of St Croix = $2.50 per transaction
GUESS WHICH BANK JUST RAISED THEIR NON CUSTOMER ATM FEE????
FIRST BANK!!!
Ready for this????
$5.00 per transaction. FIVE DOLLARS!!!!
DISGUSTING!
(...yes...I have accounts with local banks...but needed to access my stateside accounts)
Banks are making record breaking profits on fees charged to their own customers and non customers. It easy to see why.
I hope that Banco Popular and Bank of St Croix will not follow suit and raise their fees...
News flash! Banks are in the business of making money. They are not a charity group .
Anybody know the non customer ATM fees for scotia bank? Just saw...$1.50.

They make a killing because so many tourists use the ATMs because they have little or no choice. I think the ATM fee on most ships is at least $5.
I used my state side debit card and was charged 5.00 and 2.50. So i closed that account and opened up bank of st. Croix. I am also closing my bank of st. Croix account this week as a 5 dollar monthly fee for an account and they keep putting "floats" on checks I deposit. Finally I am using USAA with free atm withdrawals and just snap a photo of my checks and no waiting for these "floats".
i have a bank of america and bank of st croix. bank of america has deposit by phone too. love it. i have a local account because sometimes people need local checks. i never use an atm to get money. when i need money i go to kmart and buy what i was going to buy and get cash back. one time i checked my balance and boa charged me 5 bucks, called them up and they got rid of the charge

Lol Yep. IDK why it surprises everyone and they do this in the states, so......
Lucky or me I have a credit union in AZ and they reverse all transaction fees. I do not want a VI bank. Ive stood in line once at Banco for and hour and half to deposit rent when my landlord was off island, and that solidified the right decision of staying with stateside banks.
I used to keep an on island bank but got so tired of the ridiculous fees, lines and rude service that I closed my accounts. I only use USAA now and it is so easy and I have never had an issue. I had a contractor tell me that he would not accept an off island check. I told him that I was sorry I could not use him for the job then and all of a sudden it was OK for me to give him a USAA check. Interesting the turn around in 5 seconds flat!
when i need money i go to kmart and buy what i was going to buy and get cash back.
I don't get this. 'Splain, please.
Diving girl that's because it takes forever for the check to clear. Sometimes as much as two weeks depending on the amount. It really is a considerate thing to do for contractors
East endear I go to kmart and buy something using the debit card and get cash back . I have to go there every two weeks so I get cash then. I have not used an ATM in a long time

They use the Cash Back option when purchasing goods from a store. Instead of going to an ATM, when paying at Kmart with your debit card, ask for cash back. No extra ATM fees, although there may be a limit on how much you can take out per transaction.
Opened a checking account with First Bank 2 months ago, still waiting for my checks to arrive, and now they closed the ATM at the most convenient branch for me. Opened one with Scotia 9 months ago, also still "waiting for the checks to come in". Scotia also won't let my spouse onto the account or change our address to the place we actually live (here in the VI). Haven't tried BP yet but so far our experience with banks in the VI in general is one where we keep waiting for someone to jump out saying "gotcha! this is all a setup for a TV show.....no bank could be this silly, not even here!".....but no guy with a camera ever pops out......
chrismi if you live on stx i highly recommend bank of st croix
FB manager called me 2 weeks ago to tell me my account number had been changed to their new 10 digit system, and sent me a free box of checks and changed the address to my new address. It took about 9 days between the call and the receipt of the checks.
Thank you ikory and divinggirl. My husband and I were just talking about this yesterday. We were discusing with our relocation to STX, what did we want to do regarding bank accounts. He has a local bank up here, I have USAA.
I have had my USAA account for about 16 years now, and I love it. I was going to call them and make sure that all the conveinences I have with them will continue when I move there. But seeing your posts answered the question for me!!! Thank you so much.
Well how else do you think that they are going to share the wealth?
If you're on STT take a look at Merchants Bank. They don't have the usual teller set-up, banking is primarily online and you use Scotia's ATM machines with no fee. Very nice staff, nice atmosphere and their system is very user-friendly.

I don't see where the OP stated they are. They make tons of money on everyones deposits. Do you actually want sympathy for effin banks after '08? Poor poor babies. You're absolutely right. Maybe they should charge storage fees for our money too.
I have had steady dividends and growth in my bank stocks. The more money they make, the better for me.
I make more money from my bank than they make from me. How about you?

Of course. What was I thinking. So it's fine with you that they rip people off every chance they get. Congrats! You're a thief by default.
P.S. I bought Apple stock in 1982. Bite me.
I'm a thief by default? really? And you owned apple stock when they were paying slave wages and having employees commit suicide at work? And you're proud of that?
Just let it go. Business is business. Some work with the system, some work against it. Glad to hear that you made intelligent choices also.
Yeah. Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak were definitely slaves. Their plantation was in their garage.
ATM's in the VI are practically useless.
sunshinefun, is that because they never fill them or for other reasons
