Athletic Facilities St Croix?

Hello,
I'm looking at a possible move to the US Virgin Islands. I'd like to consider St John or St Croix, but I am a bodybuilder and am having trouble finding GYMS that are well equipped. Does anyone have a suggestion on where to find a good old fashioned meat head gym in the Islands??

I've considered trying to work with a college or high school about using their athletic facilities. I'd be curious if anyone has any thoughts on that.

It looks like University of the Virgin Islands has a great facility, but that would limit me to St Thomas as far as living.

Well, you might have to consider St Thomas.;) Sonny, the owner of Xtreme Gym, is a body builder and has a good variety of weights.

Nothing on STX really. Theres a few small places near sunny isles and some crossfit but nothing west at all. Sigh. I wish there was.. maybe open one? We would both join! Rent is pretty cheap from what I know in Fsted too, actually I was shocked how cheap! We miss the gym. I assume the cost of WAPA for al those electronic machines is just too high. Probably easier just to buy your own stuff. Get plastic coated weights though - metal will be rust buckets in a month.

Pi at freedom city surf has a small studio in Fsted - I keep meaning to go - but no big machines at all that I know of.

The place in STT looks awesome thou - never really knew about it until we were moving to STX. We always just worked out by walking down and up hull bay road. That kicked my A.

The Caribbean Health and Fitness Center in Beeston Hill on STX has an excellent gym with all sorts of weights and machines. Check them out.

Definitely check out Beeston. I've been working out there for years, and it has plenty of free weights and machines. And yes, there is plenty of muscle there as well.

Wow! Thanks for all the responses and so QUICKLY! To be honest this was sort of a last ditch effort before I turned my attention to another island. I really appreciate it!

I emails the Caribbean Health and Fitness Complex about membership rates. Now my next project (assuming everything works with the gym) is to find some good sources for food... lots of it. Oh, and probably an apartment too, now that I know what part of the island has the weights.

They took down all of the light? poles and cleaned up the ball park... is that where its going to go? Does that ballpark even get used anymore?

I wish beeston was closer to me, I'd go. Do they do month to month?

I have read that article.
It stated that construction on the sports complex would begin this year. My inquiry was directed toward west end STX locals, asking if anything has actually taken place yet.
Thank you AandA for the update. I believe that is the location slated for the project.

Thank you Old Tart for your very insightful comment. Always a pleasure.

You're welcome. USVI news is USVI news on whichever island one resides. If and when the Governor's plan comes to fruition I've no doubt that the progress will be well covered in the media.

Just to clarify, according to the article there are two projects in the works- the sports complex will be mid-island while the stadium is what is to be rebuilt in F'sted.

I had heard recently that Doug and Mae had sold the Beeston Hill facility.

I know for a fact that they have been looking at homes off island.

I don't think the deal has closed yet or it would be common knowledge.

Time will tell I suppose.

Do any of the hotels have a "workout room" that they will allow someone to use for cash or membership? Any gym open on STX? I'm no bodybuilder but I just don't think I'd be as motivated if all I had was a few weights and a bench at home!

Perhaps you could call a few hotels and inquire.

I guess sunshine was right.

Doug and Mae did sell the facility and just bought a home in Jupiter, Florida.
