Arriving in 6 days, need a roommate?
Well, after much planning I handed in my resignation yesterday.
I am arriving in STT on the 16th and if things go well, I'm not coming back!
I have no concerns about finding a job, I am more concerned about finding a nice place to live!
All my research indicates that having roommates and renting out a bigger, nicer place is preferable to going solo in a smaller place. The 1br places are tiny compared to the 3br places, in the square foot per person category.
You get much more apartment splitting a $1500/mo villa 3 ways then you do trying to rent a 1br for $500.
I sent out a personal email to everyone who had posted on this forum regarding roommates during the last 3-4 months already and am waiting for replies.
I really would like to secure a place NOW instead of having to live in a hotel for a week trying to find it. I'll spend the equivalent of a months rent just on a week in a hotel!
So, here is my call out to any other roommate seekers, contact me if any of this makes sense to you and we can talk. I am primarily interested in the East End of STT, Red Hook, and if possible STJ.
And my plea to those of you already on island, please let me know if you hear of any nice places for rent in those areas! Pamela was nice enough to send me an Island Trader in the mail, but it's not here yet and I leave in less than a week!
Thanks all! See you all soon!
2 days till arrival!
Anyone interested in a roommate?
I've found some great places in STT and a couple on STJ that would be great for 3-4 people. A deck, a view, a living room!
I am arriving oct 11th and i am interested in east end STT This pobably dosen't help you at all but keep me informed if you still need an extra guy. If you want, you can email me as well........

Hello Kathy and Shevon,
If you haven't already ordered a Settlers Handbook to living in the Virgin Islands, you should. When you order the book you can add the Island Trader, Daily News and other publications to the book. At the top of this page click on Settlers Handbook or Relocation Kit in the row of books.

Islander: Wonderful - thank you so much!!!!!
Heya!
Well here I am on STJ.
*I got here on Tuesday (9/14) from NJ at 2pm.
*Rented a car for 10 days from Discountcar.vi for $180
*Went straight to Cingular office and got a phone. Local numbers are nice when trying to get an apartment or job!
*Staying at the Tamarind Court in Cruz Bay in STJ. $54 a night for a single with a shared bath. I took the ferry from Red Hook ($3) and left my car parked on the road.
Hurricane Jeanne started dumping buckets of rain on us at about 11pm and it literally hasn't stopped since. The ferries to STT didn't run at all on Wednesday and I heard that only the 8am ferry ran today with maybe another at 3-4pm and then one more late at night.
I can't do much since everything is closed. Connections is closed too, so I cant get to the most recent apt listings.
As far as employment, alot of the restaurants are closed now and will reopen last week in Oct or even Nov 1.
This is a real Catch-22 for me since I need to make sure I will be working on STJ before I sign a lease here. Taking the ferry back and forth everyday to STT doesnt appeal to me.
Good news is that everyone seems to know someone who is hiring someone! I don't think getting a job will be hard at all.
Finding a place to live seems to be much more difficult. Everything is filling up FAST!! I am seeing places pop up one day and be gone before close of business. So here is the real catch, if most places won't reopen until November by the time I know where I'll be working, I'll have no place to live!!! One guy even told me that some employers want you to have a lease BEFORE they hire you, so they know you can even stay around! ARRGG!
What I need are ROOMMATES! I have seen some beautiful places but they are way, way to big for me. I have been in contact with about 5-6 people from this forum regarding a roommate, but everyone seems to be coming down in late October. I'll try to reply to those that have emailed me as soon as I can, but I'm paying by the minute for this internet service.
Take care all!!
