approaching our 2 year mark 🙂
Good Morning all!
Wow, what a ride it has been. We made it here , St. John, almost 2 years ago. Our story is much the same as everyone else.
We sold everything we owned and moved. We did bring things we though we would need. Most of it was right on. Thanks to all the advice and previous experiences of prior transplants.
We spent 5 weeks on St. Thomas and decided to check out St. John, fell in love with it and immediately found a place and moved. Since then we have purchased a sail boat and moved on board it.
Our plan was to move down and get a sail boat to live aboard and learn to sail. Our goal has been achieved. Now new goal sail down island and enjoy our blessings.
Thanks to all the information gained here on this page we have made an easy transition. Thank you all for the info and my endless questions.
Everyone have a blessed day! 🙂
congratulations and glad you enjoy
Awesome!
Congratulations. Let it be more years...
Congratulations on your achievement. Now just think, the adventures will just keep coming I hope you can take advantage of each and everyone of them and enjoy.

Congrats! Glad it has worked out. I hope you will write a little report and maybe Islander can put it in the moving stories.
Just a note to others reading this...it is NOT recommended to sell everything and move.
Yes! Sell everything and move. Most of us are weighed down by too many things we don't need! So glad you are living your dream 🙂

No. As repeated here ad nauseam, that's a huge mistake as many have discovered.
I think if you're young ,and/or don't have a lot of quality "everything", it may be OK to sell. But for most, selling before you come is not a good idea. Can't be stressed often enough how many people who swear they 're here for the long term end up leaving sooner than later.
Kudos!
If living your dreams was easy everyone would do it.......We just made 5.
Congratulations! My husband & I have a 4 year plan to move there. I've planned on moving there from the first time I ever stepped foot on St. John & St. Thomas (16 years ago). I felt completely at home, like this is where I belong without a doubt, and I have every time since. Before my husband and I married I said, "You know my plans are to move to the Caribbean once my daughter moves to college if that isn't in your picture this won't work." Well, she is off and running and we are just waiting for one of our homes to get paid off and my husband to finish pilot school. We currently live on a 28 mile long island just off the NC coast and our population goes from 1,400 full time residents to 8 weeks of 10,000+ during tourist season. We've dealt with hurricanes, tropical storms, and everything else that is part of living on the beach, including so much upkeep. Last fall my husband and I took a 21 day vacation to travel about 12 of the islands and did truly enjoy some of the others but there is something to be said for staying in the U.S. I am happy to hear how much this forum helped you and I look forward to all the wisdom it will give us. I am a little confused about the debate of sell all your stuff and move vs. not. It is just 'stuff' and quite frankly I am at a point in life I am so done with 'stuff'. Any tips you can give will be greatly appreciated. Once again, congratulations!!!
